  1. And now something completely different. People mention the fact that steel potentially damages barrels but does it really matter. With the collapse of gun ownership and the minimal value of second hand guns does it really matter. Guns can be picked up at stupidly low prices so does it really matter if the bores get a bit scored up. As long as the gun doesn't get unsafe, what does it matter. If it does get unsafe go and buy another one. With the long term cost of non toxic in comparison to steel buying another gun could be a consideration. As my wet day gun I have an old AyA #4 and both barrels are pretty pittedand have been for many years. It still shoots well and takes any really good bird. Ps. As it stands the vast majority of guns have a very low value and even if you have something very nice. As an experiment ask your gunshop if they would consider BUYING IN your gun. Almost certainly the answer will be No. Or you won't be offered much. Go look at the amount of guns for sale on here and how many takers there are. Lots of views but no reply questions.
  2. A difficult one. I suspect that's why you haven't had any replies and I've seen several people who have bought guns and equipment with the ideas of shooting with a woman or child. I think that if I were you I would shoot factories for a while until I was sure that one or both of you had a lasting interest and ability. In the meantime I would collect up the fired empty cases in readiness of reloading. It is quite an undertaking to set up for reloading. It's not just the buying of the kit, it's like a hobby in itself. Not impossible but it is complex and time consuming. It can be very rewarding to load your own cartridges and take game or clays. In the meantime you can see how you go with it. Ps. most reloaders need to be be fed with 70mm cases so buy 70,s and collect 70mm cases. This is just one thing to be considered. 65s can be discarded. I have had to think about this to even reply.
  3. Thanks very much for parking those images here. Generally if you show holiday pictures to others, you often get a reply of... BORING . Personally I love them. If the view of the countryside is out there, I want to see them and feel them. When you Travel to wide wide country like this give an indication of how small and insignificant individual humans are. Two years ago we went to the small island of Tenerife and went on a coach trip to see the volcano Mount Teide. Its not until you see and scale the size of the lava fields in comparison to a tour coach that is like a dot that you realise how insignificant we are and then how small that island is on the map. Thanks for the pictures.
  4. Yeah yeah but what has happened to said, LUXURY mobile.? Have they flogged it on or is it in some police compound somewhere with flat cracked tyres and a flat battery disintegrating wiper blades and with green mould on the paintwork .? Or is plod using it as a mobile tea wagon. It can't go anywhere because it might be material evidence in a criminal trial. I wonder if matey boy used to assist wee Jimmy in there down by a view up a picturesque Loch somewhere of a nice warm summers evening.
  5. Just another snout dipping the trough. I wonder who has got the mobile home because the value will have depreciated considerably especially just parked up outside in scotland. AND they're not the only ones. The whole of the establishment is very distorted and crooked. But that's the same the whole world over. People donated to the snp independence fund not to buy a luxury mobile home for wee jimmy cranky to tour around in.
  6. Why would you be interested in my opinion.? I am a single individual so my opinion counts for nothing as did the thousands who took the time, trouble and expense to travel to London to show and demonstrate our number against the proposals. It's like time lag of certificate renewals and the issue of section 7s running into years. The rifle club that I shoot with put in a renewal and a year later the certificate hadn't been renewed. When asked about when the certificate was going to be issued because the club needed to buy ammunition. The response was...Well you have personal certificates. You'll have to use them to buy ammunition. Its stuff like this that shows how insignificant basic is and why basic consistency gets stick on the forums.
  7. A very useful app to download for free is called SEEK. All you have to do is to take a picture of the tree, Bush, leaf or flower and the app will define what plant / plant type /family the specimen belongs to.
  8. IF basic were to spend a tenth of their time standing up for shooting and combating the rules and hoops that the police have installed that are decimating the numbers of shooters. Basic have no power to do anything. Some examples, The hunting ban. How many tens of thousands marched in London.. did it do any good ,,,, Nahh. Dsc. Basic were in the forefront of pushing the need for dsc training. Did anyone need this before. Nahh. And doctors certificates. Basic would even organise a random doctor to write up a report. Most doctors do not know anything about the patient because they have never treated them. All they can do is to look at the records on file. And the latest thing is that the opinion of your partner will be sought as to whether you may have a weapon. Basic is like a parasite of fifth columnists inside of the shooting community killing by a thousand cuts. No time for them at all. Prove me wrong .
  9. Totally agree. Basic is and has been so out of touch with the reality of shooting in general for many many years. The reality is that there are thousands (5) of guns in Holts auctions regularly at give away prices. You only have to look at the guns for sale on here and how many takers there are.! The amount of gunshops/ dealers there are. They won't even consider buying in or even trading in because they get stuck with the trade in. The cost of ammunition or components available, or more to the point not available. The situation of shooting will not be viable with a very few aging shooters because there are very very few people or youngsters coming into the sport. The police make up more and more hoops to jump through. The latest one that I've heard of is that partners / wives are to be asked if they approve of the applicant having guns. Maybe your neighbours. Who knows. Two options give up or continue if you can and be classed as a very odd dangerous person who goes out murdering defenceless animals and birds. Non toxic shot, no plastic. Perhaps a flintlock shooting gravel would be more realistic.
  10. I would have bought it in a flash but the dirty butt plate broke the deal, AND it would only start fighting with my #4 as to which one had the strongest ejectors. I was demonstrating the power of the #4s ejectors to the son in laws when the ejected cases hit the lcd screen of the TV and wrecked the screen. They are truly powerful. Luckily the lads didn't dob me in to the Mrs.
  11. that's not strait forward either because when we bought the set it came with bluetooth earbuds. Great I thought the TV can be one level and I can set the volume to my own taste and requirements on the buds.... Nah.... the ear buds did work , very well BUT they either linked up to the apple Imac computer and automatically opened the music files and started blasting random tracks in my ears or opened up YouTube videos or IF I was lucky the sound from the TV.>>>> But the tv sound was the same level as the ear buds so the tv side of the sound was blaring out loud. not very easy to win especially when the so called techs haven't got a clue what you are talking about. The fellow at Richer sounds appeared to understand and certainly knew about it but I don't necessarily know if his ideas were spot on. "Computer say NO".
  12. Right.. This afternoon I called ..Richer Sounds in Maidstone. this is where we bought the TV from. A reasonable outfit. The assistant knew exactly the problem and had a few suggestions...... Only suggestions because every setup is different. He said go into the settings and see if there is any amplification tab . he asked about if we were using straight tv sound or a sound bar. I told him that we were using a Yamaha soundbar connected via an optical link. He said, if we could, it would be better to drive the soundbar via an hdmi cable and to google and try to find out how to reset the bar back to factory settings.... Well it all sounded feasible but whether it would work or was just a load of well meaning nonsense I don't know. That's the main problem with a lot of modern tech stuff. no one seems to really know. the equipment is so good that it doesn't go wrong but when it does no one has any idea where the fault is or how to diagnose it. modern car faults are a good example.
  13. Is this due to fighting hearing problems.? I have a great deal of difficulty understanding what she is saying.😆. She seems to have difficulty speaking out , doing a lot of mumbling and talking whilst walking away into another room or mumbling from another room. The best one that I have ever seen was some ole boy who was a pilot in the war who was down at the Raf memorial in dover and a woman tv reporter was talking to him about his experiences and after a while it was his turn to reply and the old boy turned to his helper and said ... "WAT SHE SAY"..?
  14. We have a super TV. But I don't know if the sound level control is something to do with the TV or whether the TV program sound engineers are having a laugh or what. It's as if Fred records part of the program on sound level 5 and Mary records some of the program at level 2 but Harry recorded the adverts/ trailers at level 15. We seem to have to have a finger on the sound button varying the sound levels ALL of the time. The sound level for the commentary is one level but the sound level for the crowd is double that level. This is really noticable at FA Cup matches and most adverts. Is this just us or is it commonplace.? What is the remedy.
  15. A few months ago a friend and I journeyed up from Kent to Holts. Now we see deer down in Kent but as we were going up the amount of carcases got more and more. There were lots of deer just grazing along the side of the road and they took no notice of the traffic at all. Back down here the Mrs and I were coming back home from the daughters passing through a parcel of local forestry when pair of fallow heads poked through the trees at the side of the road. Initially I thought that they were a couple of stray sheep. Luckily they stayed put and we flashed passed. A few seconds later and I could have had a pair of deer heads mounted on the bonnet.
  16. Ere. Your not the bloke off of the sun life advert are you.? Who looks a bit sheepish like matey glassing his neighbours garden and who is going to use the £50 gift card to get an upgrade pair of noculars. 🤣
  17. Well if you've got the binoculars go and look through the window with and without and see what the difference is.
  18. on two occasions I've been decoying and had random walkers come right in front of the hide. Although I had been shooting there was a quiet spell. I hadn't noticed these people and suddenly they saw the flock of decoys and stopped. I think that they were sure that these pigeons should have flown away. One clapped hands and the walkers seemed entranced that the pigeon had taken no notice of them. It was at this point that one of the walkers decided to climb over the wire fence to investigate the hypnotised decoys. This was a situation of the decoys decoying the people. I couldn't let this happen and matey strain the fence or risk him leaving body parts on the fence. I made my presence known to these walkers and they were surprised that I was there and they were there and the decoys were there. I redirected them back to the footpath and the route to go and carried on shooting. Still at least I could be sure that I had done a good job of the hide, but there again it showed how blind people are/can be.
  19. Lots of variables involved. Light levels, angle through the glass, residues on the glass, quality of the binos, distances and what you expect to see. What are you looking at.?
  20. Again it depends on the situation. I generally can't get on with anything overhead but I can remember one Instance where I was pigeon shooting over rape. A bright sunny day with blue sky and a small amount of snow. The only way to shoot was from a dry ditch with a steep cut bank next to a track. There was no wind and the birds were approaching high and coming down Almost vertically. I was totally visible in the hide and without cover the birds sheared away so I rigged a couple of hidesticks into the hedge straight out and drooped a net over. It did help with the birds seeing me but I couldn't shoot through the Net. eventually what i did was to move up and over the bank/hedge and I made a hide with a net roof but no front. Relying on the natural hedge. Weird shooting the falling birds. Similar to duck coming onto a pond.
  21. That's a lot of extreme fox drives. Were they left over from goose shooting before the lead ban.?
  22. 2 boxes.? So how many primers in total.?
  23. I joke not. There's a couple that mooch around and all you can see is their illuminated faces. Considering that there was a sink hole in a main road and the fowl drain is about 15 ... 20 ft deep there would be no return. Also what's the point of putting up signs no one takes a blind bit of notice. If kwis deems that it's his human right to roam through your wood do you really 5hink that he'll take any notice..?
  24. 8 foot up in,a tree.? No one is going to see it up there considering everyone walks along looking at the ground 2ft in front of them or looking at their mobile... ALL of the time... Put it flat on the ground at least it will be seen by some and they wont have to chuck it on the ground. I've seen people walking along the footpath in the dark looking at their phone. It could be possible that they would fall down an open manhole.
