Right Suzy problem of the week is Blisters

Well one blister actually on my little toe(would you like too see)

In May i am doing two sponsored walks.

So Mrs Sweepy is now in training :):lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: well sort off.

The walking part is not the problem as i have been doing that for the last 40 odd years. And i think i have master that skill rather well. :good:

But this one little blister is giving me jip.

So please please please if anyone has any advice on how to treat it or even how to stop it coming back (once i have bannished it from my left foot.) Please do.

My Dad has told me that when he was in the Air Force when they went a wandering they used to pee on theirs.

Now i dont know if his just taking the pee out of me or this is true. But whatever i have rule that one out as my aim is not that good. And i am still to young to smell of wee.

Maybe try socks of a different material or you need different shoes. If it keeps popping up in the same place then something doesn't fit right. If you are doing that much walking see if you can find a store that specializes in running shoes. They can help you get fit up properly and it makes a world of difference. You'll pay a bit more for the shoes but the comfort is worth it.

Compeed can be a nightmare if it is applied with a slight 'edge' in it, it needs to be flat.

You could try some zinc oxide tape, but the white stuff not the skin coloured as its a bit easier to apply and doesnt come unstuck, but put it on the night before and let the heat bond the glue, leave it on for a few days and take off in the bath

Is the blister on the side or the end of the toe? Are they caused by the seam of the sock or rubbing of the toe on your footware

when you are healed a thin pair of socks inside your others will provide a friction plate effect

or if you are feeling up to it a thin layer a Vaseline, feels wiered but seems to work

As for the blister just pop it with a heated pin from the fullest side and push the gunk out, you may need a couple of pokes??!!

If you need any help or advise on footware or socks send me a PM

Definitely surgical spitits rubbed on the feet twice daily once the original blister has healed up and make sure that your footwear is a good fit! :good:

If you want to use the "Pee" method you had better check that your wellies don't leak first or you are going to make a hell of a mess on the floor at Tescos! "Fill your wellies Suzyl"!:lol::lol:

Not going to suggest method of sorting your blister out. Mr scalpel and betadine spray can do that.

What i might do though, is point you to some "Injinji" socks for when you're rid of Mr Bubble. I'm using them for marathon training and they're brills!!! Basically, they're gloves for feet and work on the principle of removing friction between your toes.

Once you get over the whole michael jackson thing, they really are the ish!!

There are really two ways to dealing with blisters:

1) Avoiding them

2) Dealing with them

I've found the best way to avoid them is to use well fitting, properly worn in boots, and wear a thin pair of socks within another pair of socks. My personal favourite combo is to use a pair of Bridgedale Coolmax liner socks (very thin and lightweight) and a pair of Bridgedale Trekker (or similar socks over the top. The outer socks are well padded and comfy, the inner ones are both well fitting and slippy on the outside, so the rubbing happens on them and not your feet.

2) Zinc oxide is a wonderful thing, but I have to agree with just about all of the previous posts. My tactic is to sterilise a pin, pop the blister and get rid of the fluid. I then put white zinc oxide over the site with a bit of thin dressing over the blister itself, then put the brown (Boots sell it) zinc oxide over the top. The reason for this is that the brown zinc oxide is shiny/slippy, but the white is not, so one keeps things in the same place, but the other allows a sock to move over the top of it and stops the sock sticking and creating another hotspot.

But... if you know that you are likely to get a blister in a certain place (with me it's either the index toes or the heel), I bang a bit of brown zinc oxide on the area and it helps prevent the blister forming.

As always, prevention is way better than cure. I still regret not taking photos of my mate's heel as he had a medic cut excess skin from it and clean out three days of fluff, clag and puss out of it. Actually, a video would have been better... He did swear a bit when they put on the antiseptic.
