Beretta28g
Our bin men insist on leaving our bins right accross the pavement at least 2 meters from the wall, they are a problem to navigaton. we have asked the bin men, to leave them near the fence but they do it for a couple of weeks, and then resort to their old tricks. What can be done about it? Many thanks Beretta

bruno22rf
Simple-borrow someone with a wheelchair and ask them to come round after the bins have been emptied-get them to ring the waste department and tell them that they are trapped in the garden because of the bins-doesnt matter that they dont live there-they could be house sitting.Demand that the bin men return to let him out-this works cos i've tried it-took 2 goes but no more probs since. death from below
It sounds a bit victor meldrew but phone your council highways dept - you'll find that the binmen are most likely committing a local byelaw offence by obstructing the pavement. If they don't play, tell them that you've made a note of the call/name of person spoken to and that WHEN an accident happens, they will be quoted as the person responsible for doing naff all about it. I wouldn't bother the binmen, though have usually got 20 million square miles to cover in a day and with all good intentions, probably just forget. starlight32
I have a larger problem than bin men leaving them in the way-The suffolk councils are now charging for replacement bins if stolen, if you are not sharp getting yours in then they can disappear pretty pronto. Absolute pain it is. I have had to replace two at 28 quid a time. I have had right rows over it, you are in a no win situation. You put your bin out and can't get it in until you come home from work, so ultimately it gives the thieves plenty of time to have it away. The sooner someone comes up with a homing device or the like and presents it to dragons den the better I say.........
pyr8
paint your bin some bright colour, complain to you council, our bins were left around the corner about 50yds away.one call sorted it out.
digger
2m away ? How do you cope with that ? When you say navigation do you mean for shipping, pedestrians or cars ? Do your neighbours have to deal with this or are you left to cope alone? Shame on the council for not cleaning your bin, repainting your fence ( as we all know where that is in relation to your wall ) and not prioritising this heinious crime. I bet you hate summer :(

pegasus bridge
our's put our bin and the neighbour's back down the drive (5m ish). i have got this problem - only they leave the bin accross the end of the drive , rather than put it back the extra 2mtrs, when i pull up i have to then get out of the car and move it = a pain as my house is on a corner. i gave up asking after three tries - so now i always make sure i put the bin out with the handles against the wall, so at least its a pain in the *** for them having to turn it around :( (yes - i know its petty - sorry!) deputy dog
I work as a bin man. I can only say sorry on behalf of all bin men. For the marathon walk of 2 whole meters Berretta28G has to walk once every 2 weeks to collect his bin. This is totally unexceptable and should not be tolerated. Expenses should be paid out by the offending council for the wear an tear on his footwear of what ever discription he uses whilst he undertakes this long and extremely tireing journey. And a card with and apology writen inside off the Waste disposal supervisor should bring a peacefull and pleasant end to such an anus crime. deputy dog
There are bin men on here (or at least there used to be) ask them how many bins they are expected to empty a day and then ask yourself what you would do? I do 2500 properties a day Stuartp. And we got to get a move on and then some to try and complete that round on a daily basis. Its a unpleasant fact that there are bins left a little further away from their pick up points. If it was a perfect world where time didn't matter, every body would have their bins returned back to the original pick up point. I would understand if it was 2/3 properties down the street. but 2 meters is next to nothing. He must have a busy shipping lane up around by him. The way things are navigating around what i would say in a 240 liter bin. Must cause one hell of obstruction.
-oXo-
I walk my bin to the end of my road to save them driving up here. Whats the big deal over 2 metres? Edited March 8, 2010 by -oXo-
MPT1
The response from the Bin Men on here is at about the level one would expect. Most councils have Quality Assurance Managers, their job is to ensure that you receive the service for which you pay. The magic words are "You have a duty of care". 'Phone the council and ask to speak with them direct. No point complaining to the chimp when the organ grinder is available. Maybe if a few East Europeans were employed to show the indigenous workers how, things might improve. A tip is an extra reward for doing a job well, not a payment to try to get the job done. Most councils have forbiden the taking of tips for that reason.
poorwullie
Ohno. My scaffie's (binman) a criminal. Can't be having that. Will be drinking the Christmas beer myself from now on. Many thanks for saving me from getting involved in a life of crime.

Most councils have forbiden the taking of tips for that reason. Like i say to any one who thinks they can do the job better, come and have a go. All councils should have an open day where Joe Public can come in and have a days work experience loading on the back of a bin wagon on a big round. That way all the moaners can come and see if they can do the job better. I would put my months wages on it, that not one person would complete a round without leaving at least one one solitary bin where it shouldn't be. All but 10% of council tax goes to the police and for street lighting. The Other 10% actually goes to the council itself. So the old wives tale that you pay our wages, is just like i wrote, an old wives tale.
Dunkield
DD I knew the number was high, but 2500 is a huge number - respect to you fella I don't mind moving my bin back, in fact I am so neighbourly I do next doors as well, and in turn they do ours if we are out. I am sure half the people moaning about this would call in sick on Tuesday if they started your job on Monday.
