-oXo-
Saw this in the news somewhere last year that our police wanted to bring these into their toy collection and just remebered about them. Wonder if they did get permission to use them? Seam pretty dangerous to me if they got a head shot with one :yp: Vid Vid2 Edited March 18, 2010 by -oXo-
Salop Matt
Personally I would like to see police given these to extend there tazar range ! I would imagin the impact force at 40yrds would be pretty shocking to a target let alone the zapp after !

al4x
if you look at the accident Manchester Police had in training with a 12 gauge I can't see anything like this being brought in ever
-oXo-
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/08/24/taser_xrep/ Saves hitting people with lethal ammo I guess

Breastman
I've seen these before on that american gun show with the bald guy and i still can't work out in what situation they'd be used :look: Surely if the level of threat the person is displaying only warrants being tazered (as opposed to being shot), why would the standard 30ft range pistol tazer not be used? The only thing i can think of is to replace having to carry a pistol, shotgun AND standard tazer, but in the heat of the moment, or just down to simple lack of concentration i wouldn't want to have to quickly load a shotgun without being certain i hadn't just put a buckshot/slug round in there :yp: Just sounds like marketing a gimmick to me. Still the thing looks cool so i guess its worked Mark

alexr
if you look at the accident Manchester Police had in training with a 12 gauge I can't see anything like this being brought in ever I was thinking much the same. Or rather I was thinking that given the ability for GMP firearms officers to shoot one and other we would find out exactly how lethal it was in fairly short order, but that is coffin humor and not appropriate in the circumstances. I have to wonder what use this would be in Policing in the UK. It is in reality an offensive rather than a defensive weapon, and the uncertainty of the recovery time and initial effect make it inappropriate for use in the UK. Yes I can see that if it had been used on that tube train in London the we would not have had one dead Brazilian. However if he had been a bomber then there would have been the risk of triggering the explosion by using this device. What role are they suggesting it is used for??? DSPUK
I don't think our police shouldn't be even issued with spud guns - From day they shot Steven Waldorf I have never trusted them with a gun. Dave
UKPoacher
Poor pooch latched onto its handler and got a few punches in the head. Remember, the handlers aren't wearing arm protection. I've got scars on my legs from my old police dog. It's an occupational hazard.
shot shot
ok, a few things. The version of shotgun it's designed for is a modified version of the mossberg 500, it cannot fire regular ammunition (note that the ammo can be fired in a normal shotgun, but for obvious reasons it wouldn't be encouraged) The rounds cost $800 for 5, that's 160 a piece! http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2010/02...se-and-pricing/
Dave 101
100yrds best watch out :o :o Its 100 feet thats only 33.3 yds . not that great a distance , but it saves the effort of talking to someone just zap em . In all the TV progs you see these days [ real life ] the police seem to go in with attitude of antagonising people and goading them into reacting just so they are justified in beating the **** out of someone . Delbert
The best 'less than lethal' option in most cases is this... They don't seem overly keen on TopGear 'the Stig' got a right nibbling Sisqo (German Shepherd) is more diplomatic he just puts his paws over your shoulders and whispers something in the ears . Windy
A real benefit of this taser platform (other than range) is the lack of wires. A properly worked up mentalist with a sword will have little trouble breaking the wires, they break very easily. Plus the real world effective range of a standard X29 taser is 15ft. The published 21ft range is questionable, due to the amount of separation between the barbs. Would effectively require one of the barbs to strike the bottom of the leg, not easy with a moving subject. I woudnt be at all surprised if this shotgun based platform is approved by the HO. Fuddster
Once its approved in the US and gets a few years of operational use expect it on our streets. Same as everything else. Unit price quoted at £160..............versus a 25p .223 round /one death and a court case/coroners inquest. wakey wakey peeps fudd

Evil Elvis
I know i dont always appear to support the boys in blue, but if they ahve to face nutters like rauol Moate then I say give it to them, if it stops him from killing himself all good and well....if it saves the tax payer a penny or 2....so be it. If i was a copper and could use a "non-lethal" technique at 100 yards....then id want to.
