christy
Reading the Breitling story posted today got me thinking. I have spent a few quid on watches over the years. Nothing as spectacular as a Breitling but a few 200 quid chronographs. They all conked, usually the buttons cease to work or the manufacturer has no parts. Had a Seiko for 10 yrs once and they (Seiko) told me they had no parts so hard luck. I complained like hell and they gave me a credit for 300.00, fair play. Anyway that's all behind me now because I have found "the one". I have owned my present watch for 5 years. Every single day it is accurate to the second. When I hear the beeps on tele or radio it is 100% spot on. No maintenence, no batteries-simply tells the time-every time. It is a Casio G-Shock that cost 80.00. In the early hours of each day (2am) it recieves a radio signal that automatically sets the time. Unbelievablably accurate day after day. Never breaks down. Only thing you have to look out for is in the winter if the sun has not shone for days it may need to be left on a window sill for an hour to re-charge. Mainly caused by wearing long sleeves when it does not see day light for 72 hours. Summertime/wintertime change over-it knows and just does it. How valuable is that! Best watch ever for me. What's yours???
Paddy Galore!
seiko all the way, can't afford omega and such like, got a nice seiko premier a couple of years ago in the sales for half price. my current "work" watch is a seiko kinetic which i've had for about 10yrs and it's still not broke. even the strap is still ok. Billy.
Straight off the back of the Navitimer Hertiage thread, I'll have to say my Navitimer Heritage Black face and bezel with white sub-dials. Limited edition and I picked up one of the last in the country Not my watch, as this is in blue, but I don't have my watch with me to take a photo of it. bruno22rf
Bought a casio with digital hands when i first started work and it never lost time or went wrong in any way at all until i lost it 14 years later-cant see the point in spending mega-bucks on a watch when cheapies do the same job. vole
Rolex GMT mk1 courtesy of working in Middle East which is tucked away as I cant wear watches in work any more. I really regret giving away my Seiko Divers Automatic watch while drunk. They were cheap out there but to replace it now would cost £200 or so. Lad I gave it to lost it. Big chunky macho watch it was and I have fond memories of it on my wrist reflecting the sunlight as I ogled the fish on some reef or other. Got the same Seiko, but my favourite for obvious reasons is my late father's Omega; although the 1933 gold Benson pocket watch is a close second. henry d
Timex Ironman Triathlon, @ £25 way back in the mid 80`s and still working, though I wouldn`t think a dip in the water a good idea as the seal may be shot after 25 ish years worth of replacing batteries

Dunkield
Those Brietlings look a bit busy, 'bling' even for my liking I had loads of watches over the years and settled on a Tag Heuer 12 years or so ago and have never felt the need to change it. DSPUK
Picked this up for 90 quid last month http://www.shopping.com/xPO-Seiko-Seiko-Sn...n-s-Chronograph My day to day is Seiko Kinetic that was given to me - chrome has worn off from rubbing on sleeve but it keeps perfect time - Also got a bog standard Seiko that looks neat but not ostentatious. Then I have my Breitling Chrono that was 21st birthday present - I remember buying it for £21 from watch's of Switzerland -- It had sat in a draw for 40 yrs so had it cleaned and it's now working OK -- Not a Breitling clean as they just want hundreds to open case back. - I always curse that for another tenner I could have had a navtimer but I never earned that in a month so was dream anyway The picture was taken before it was cleaned Dave
ph5172
One of the Original Traser Watches (it has had years of abuse and i have managed to scratch the virtually un-scratchable face, but has seen some serious over pressure and climates from -30 to +40) Or Seiko Chronograph with Luminescent dial (with far to many dials that just serve to confuse me, so i stick to remembering where the hour hand and minute hand were!) or asking someone else to do the maths (edit - My new one is a Pulsar, as the Seiko broke and makers changed to Pulsar) But before that was a G Shock - that after 4 years in a draw is only a min out (after trying to adjust it has gone dead completely now..lol) Edited March 31, 2010 by ph5172
MPT1
When I was thirteen I found an Omega laying in a heap of leaves in a gutter. I took it home and showed my Dad who promptly gave me fifty bob (£2.50p) for it. I saw one in a shop and it was labelled @44 Guinees. Dad wore it every day until he died, then it came back to me. It's solid gold, very simple, no date or any gizmos. It is however automatic. I have several watches now some quite expensive, my day to day watch is a Sekonda £30 or there abouts, but my favourite for best is the old Omega. I know my Dad looked at it every day for 20years. Benellimelody
My armani (250bar) The first day i got it, i put it on straight away and when i got home i went and let my dog out. I threw him a tennis ball and as i did so the watch flew off ma hand (cos needed a link out) and landed on the conservatory roof It then rolled down and dropped 10 feet onto some chippens. Thinking it would be ******, picked it up and not a mark on it. 3 years later and still going strong.
Billy.
Out of interest, has anyone ever need to tell the time at 200 metres under water? From what I remember, 200m water resistance actually means that it can take a bump at 20m and survive. My watch says 10m water resistance, but I can safely assure you that if I even took it in the shower, it'd be a write off.
Dunkield
I don't bother taking my Tag off to go swimming in the sea or fresh water, and have been down to about 20 metres with it on no problem, I guess the manufactures think we are all impressed by big numbers I think DSPUK has the most stylish watch so far though
