Bloke
Sent mine. Was slightly worried about the 'Would you like me to brief you on shooting sports in your constituency?' part at the bottom so edited that out, I hardly feel I am the person to do that! I was concened about that as well, I would not consider myself as an "expert", so I changed that part to " I strongly suggest that you consult/view the information from shooting organisations, i.e. BASC before taking part in any further debates/voting on these issues, particularly regarding the important role of shooting in a rural constituency such as yours" Edited June 10, 2010 by Bloke
Brackers
Sorted! I do know my MP fairly well, so I personalised the letter and am extremely happy to have a chat with her on the issue. She is supportive anyway!

Raja Clavata
3rd attempt at my MP Dear *******, I hope this email finds you well!? I had intended to follow-up on this email but naturally would never have expected that I would be doing so with the tragic loss of life in Cumbria last week inevitably still at the fore-front of our minds. In light of these events I have reflected over the fact that it would perhaps be more appropriate to allow the mourning and out-cry to subside before getting back in touch with you but, upon reflection, I feel it appropriate to do so now. As I am sure you are aware there will soon be an open debate within the House of Commons on firearms licensing legislation within the UK. I am equally sure that you are aware that, since the recent events unfolded, those individuals and organisations which are opposed to the lawful use of firearms in the UK have not refrained from reinforcing their views where ever and when ever possible. I have to tell you that I am somewhat disturbed by the alarmist approach taken by certain aspects of the UK media in reporting this tragedy, particularly that of Sky News. I must admit to feeling a little guilty contacting you in the run-up to the General Election in relation to your position on shooting because despite it being an important aspect of my life it is understandably not as important as addressing the issues of the nations financial deficit, immmigration and erosion of our traditional values etc. However in light of the recent tragedy I feel it is now particularly important to understand where you opinion on this lies. So, I again, and for the third time respectfully ask that you clarify your position on the support of shooting sports in the UK? Thank-you in advance for your time. Michael ******* PS - my own views on UK firearms legislation is that they are already amongst the strictest that exist and that they need not be restricted any further. Research supports this view and I would be happy to provide links to articles reflecting this. In my opinion any reforms should be directed at the interpretation and implementaion of this legislation which varies dramatically between Police Constabularies and even between individual Firearms Enquiry Officers within the same force / licensing area. Frankly what is and is not viewed as acceptable appears to be somewhat of a lottery which on balance likely "benefits" as many as it hinders but surely the aim should be the consistent application of Home Office guidelines (which are surprisingly clear and, in the most part, unambiguous). I firmly believe achieving a consistent implementation of these laws would serve both the interests of the shooting community but far more importantly the interests of the general public as a whole. -----Original Message----- From: ******, Mike (M.I.) Sent: 30 April 2010 09:34 To: ********************* Subject: RE: Support shooting Dear *******, Thanks for the reply. Fully appreciate how busy things must be at the moment. What I was really after though was understanding Andrew's exact position on this matter, based on the reply I take it he is in one of two camps: "I support shooting sports conducted according to the current codes of practice" OR "I am supportive of some aspects of legal shooting sports but have reservations in one or more areas". If you are able to address this specific question for me then it will be fed back to BASC who will publish on their website which should in turn prevent other constituency members posing the same question to ********. To be honest, ******'s position on this will not affect my vote (I have a "Vote Conservative" sticker in the front window of my house) it would just be good for myself and like minded folks in the constituency to know what his position is. Thanks in advance. As you can imagine, with the General Election taking place at the moment, ******* is being inundated with hundreds of messages and letters from constituents, all of which he is taking careful note of. However, as you will understand, it is not possible for him to reply in detail at this stage to every message that comes in, as he is out and about all day and every day, meeting people throughout the Romford constituency. After the General Election, Andrew will be replying personally in detail to all of the points you have made. Please make sure you included your full postal address with your original message. If you did not do so, please forward the e-mail to him again, including all of your contact details. In the meantime, if you require an urgent answer to any question prior to the General Election, please contact *******'s Campaign H.Q. on ***** ******* and speak to: <snip> Alternatively, if you see ******** around ******** at any point during the coming days, please do not hesitate to stop him to discuss anything with him directly. webber
Done it. Blimey that was easy; I had a do yesterday, but tied myself up in knots somehow. My MPs reply should be interesting; a, he's Labour, b, when I contacted him before the general election his response was quite neutral, with an anti undertone, if you get my drift. webber
