Thanks my first thought is surly a little bit of rain shouldn't have soaked into a newly oiled stock or did it get a proper soaking?, not sure i would put any oil on it now as might lock the stain in, have you tried wiping over with a warm damp cloth that might liven up the water mark and draw it out, then give it a good wipe dry with a soft dry cloth... seeker
When its dry palm a very little stock oil into it and put it aside in a warm place... I have a bottle of CCI stock conditioner that's lasted several years. Neat linseed seems to stay tacky too long but the commercial mixes are quick and easy. vampire
It looks like water marks on an unwaxed stock,if i were you i would wipe it over with warm damp cloth as has been said and dry it off, then go to b&q and buy a tin of finishing wax in a cream tin about 30mm high by 120mm,apply with a rag and work it in circles, leave to dry and buff to a finish, this will create a proffesional finish that is waterproof that doesnt flake scratch or build up crud like oils/varnish. atb,Karl
mudpatten
If, like me, you do decide to palm in the occasional drop of Linseed oil on your stock, make sure you use Boiled Linseed which will dry/soak in quite rapidly, rather than neat Linseed oil which can literally take months to absorb/dry. Jcaskey
I've bought two new beretta in the last year, one premium gun, and this has happened to both. The grain rises in some areas after a good soaking, typically the 'lesser rubbed' less accessible spots. 0000 wire wool (finest possible) on the rough areas with the grain obviously then oil and after a suitable period a good wax cured it for me and put the finish on the gun that probably should have been there day one. But if you're not confident you might be better to get someone who knows what they're about to look at it

Bigamos
A think the main thing that is worrying me most, is should this happen to a 2 day old gun...... I any very fussy when it comes to thing like this, so I don't really want to take it back to my gun dealer, for him to make a hash of it etc....! What is the chances of GMK taking the gun back, as it no use to me in Northern Ireland as it always rains over here...! Should a Beretta finish do this.....? If so I think I might go back to my sysynthetic stock shotguns....! I was shooting with two other gents, who where using silver pigeons and 686's, witch have never had ther stocks touched and they where perfect....! seeker
Depends which type of stock finish was used at the factory .... Over the years there seem to be several .... some harder wearing than others: a sort of surface varnish: a hard synthetic: an oil style ... perhaps they were something that could be done on a spray line? Tho at the top models a lot more hand work might be expected

At the end of the day you have bought and paid a lot of money for a new factory finished gun, i have a feeling they will back it to Beretta and/or replace it with a new one.. Dekers
If in doubt consult the professionals first, there are many who can help with stocks but I can recommend http://www.####.co.uk/ Have a word with Sage (Dennis), tell him Deker recommended him and he will look after you! He has just worked miracles on my WMR stock. I suspect the answer will be quite straightforward. Bigamos
Well after many E-mail and phone calls to people, I now have the marks removed from the gun and the OEM finish replaced.... I wiped the stock with IPA to remove the rain drop marks, and then added 3 coats of Birchwood Casey Stock Wax....! ( nice easy product to use ) It has brought back the OEM Beretta satin type finish, and made the stock 100% water proof.... Just some quick photos of the finish.....! Many thanks to all, for your hints and tips etc, now just to get out and enjoy it....!

Spiderdude
Great post.... Just had my brand new silver pig 1 out in a light bit of rain and it has ended up looking just like yours did. Ordered the IPA & wax, hopefully I can get it back to a good finish.... If not then it is heading back to the dealer!
Spiderdude
I should add that I hope I haven't ### it as palmed some oil in before reading this thread!!!!
Guest cookoff013
IPA is not 100% alcohol. isopropanol is a completely different solvent. it is also called propan-2-ol, 2-propanol, isopropanol. it is not alcohol. i`ve heard of guys drinking the hand sanitizer stuff (ipa) to get drunk quicker. do not drink it ! phew, lecture over. figgy
My new 682 gold e suffered the same after getting wet, i just gave it a rub with a duster and furniture polish. The gun came up good as new . Been other posts on the same subject a while back,so i knew it was nothing to worry about, and expected it when it did get wet. Can see why it gave you pause for thought though. ATB figgy
Spiderdude
I've used ccl oil on it and it is starting to look better... Will persist with this method each day for the rest of the week. Sure it'll cone up fine. Can I put wax over the top of the oil once it has been massaged enough???
