Teal
Post shooting season, and if out roost shooting I encourage members of PW to whack grey squirrels on sight. They can make sporting targets, but they often pin themselves to the tree branches, so make sure you keep a close eye for twitching tails- a dead giveaway. They can also creep around a tree so two people are advisable.
SNAKEBITE
Do I still get 6d for the tails?
Dunkield
I know at the end of the season is the traditional time to whack 'um, is it just for that reason or is that a good time anyway? I have always taken 'on site' as a good time to drop the hammer.
Bazooka Joe
But he said: "We must control them effectively now or there will be serious consequences." They make your **** boil, where have they being for the past 10yrs, common knowledge to anyone in the countryside................................. Now they'll take the credit for it. tenbears10
Biodiversity minister Jim Knight said "humane and targeted pest control" It is thought the cull will use poison to reduce numbers over the next three years. Anyone agree that targeted pest control and culling with poison doesn't add up?
webber
My father in law had greys knocking on his back door. I obtained a cage trap and some rough peanut butter. So far 6 greys have gone for a swim in the waterbutt. webber

rocksaplenty
Never a good idea to shoot from a position right underneath them. Did this a couple of weeks ago and the bast*** landed on my head - he still had a bit of fight in him and they are viscous *******!! :*)
Ferret Master
Hi, I listened to a debate on this on the radio on Sunday and they would be trapping and shooting them. Perhaps I should offer my services. We trapped and shot 18 in 2004 and 14 in 2005. As a result our hens eggs are stolen less frequently and the birds are nesting again. FM

flash
i might try that, what he does isnt exactly hard as he sits on the veranda with the .41o and air rifle, facing to the bird table. if they run they get the .410 and if they sit on the bird table they get A .22 pellet. not hunting but the only other way that is effecient in that wood is trapping but doesnt always work. also gets a fiver for every mole he gets in this guys garden. flash

Teal
I know at the end of the season is the traditional time to whack 'um, is it just for that reason or is that a good time anyway? I have always taken 'on site' as a good time to drop the hammer. A couple of reasons- firstly if there's a shoot on the land, they won't want you trapsing through the woods, blasting at squirrels, also means beaters and keepers have free time to do this, and secondly this time of year is good as there are no leaves. On site works as well

Fisherman Mike
And remember all..... dont shoot out drays in the Spring.. They are often used by several species of nesting bird... including buzzard, sparrow hawk, owl & kestrel.
