Just wondering would it be legal to shoot a big cat? GOt foxes, vermin on my .223 open fac, would they be classed as vermin as they,ve killed sheep.

To be honest i,ve never believed they were out there till i saw two,had the cross hairs on both of them one at about 80 yards one 120 didn't fire at either.

these were two very remote farms about 10 miles apart (not saying where) said to 1st farmer<QUOTE saw something a bit strange tonight, straight away he said don't tell me big cat! he'd been losing lambs, sheep and finding fleeces up tree's and seen the cat said didn't tell people cause they don't believe him.

Second farmer said he'd seen large cat about same size as a labrador several times and got within 30 yards of it,said never really bothered him till he had a baby and left it on the lawn in cot both farmers said shoot them.

By the way i'm not new to lamping etc been shooting well over 20 years kill 100 plus foxes per year mainley at night so i've seen most things and these were 100 per cent big cats

ive got a ' shoot animals for the protection of humans and other animals' condition on all my rifles and vermin on them all too.

failing that then 3 50g loads of bbs in quick succesion would do it at close range.

i dont know what the police would say though

I've got no quibbles about shooting one just don,t want to lose my fac and sgc's over it forgot to mention i shot 2 foxes within 10 minutes of seeing the first cat in the same field.

a freind had a simalar problem with a wild labrador would you beleive!!! it was going back to nature, doing what wild dogs do,he obtained permission, but it was for 'wild dog' only, and i think thats the thing, you need to get an animal specific thing on ure licence, this is partly the reason you dont see pix on here or elswhere of big cats shot, becase folk shoot em and bury them, without anyone knowing and without any prying eyes. understandable as u wouldent want to loose ure licence, but if its ripping up sheep etc,u gotta do somthing about it...i advise you get in touch with ure flo, inform him theres a real problem etc

Shoot one,put it in the freezer and ring the tabloids, start blabbing for the best price.

Dont quote me but I thought I read in one of the shooting mags they were offering £1000 for the story & pics to someone who shoots a big cat, think it was sporting rifle

I'd whack it, no question.

These animals are dangerous. If you have the calibre to take one then go for it. I can't see you losing your FAC and for the money you'd get from the media you could afford to lose it and pay for a mate to take you out anyway!

EDIT... I'm pretty sure that even after a revoke you can re-apply in a few years anyway?

If you shoot one with a 223 I Believe your FAC will be the least of your worries. Read the small print for your life insurance to see if it covers 'hunting dangerous game' otherwise your next of kin could be in for some lean times. At the very least I suggest taking the moderator off and vaseline the barrel of your rifle as it will make it slide a bit easier when that big cat shoves it where the sun don't shine. good luck. :good:
