Axor
Im not sure if I just heard this right but on our local news (Anglia tonight)Im sure that they said the police will no longer complete a home check as part of the licence renewal (shotgun) they said it would not be detrimental and free up some time for the firearms dept Michael

sitsinhedges
I've already stated on another forum that once upon a time you never got a visit at all and merely posted your application then got your granted licence by return post. Can't recall many people going haywire as a result.

njc110381
I assume they will still visit for a grant? Lets be honest if someone has a SGC already and hasn't had anything flag up to suggest anything has changed then a visit isn't really required surely? You know how the law works better than when it was granted, you have a better understanding of guns and also have the correct security measures. What needs to be said that hasn't been covered already?! It's a great idea I think.

Can't recall many people going haywire as a result. I can remember when it was like that. But a home visit does give them the chance to eyeball you and your home setup and form some opinions. They are saying for renewals, if nothing has changed since the last renewal I can see the logic. A lot of home visits are fairly low key but must be very time consuming. Diceman
I'm not sure this is a good idea. Seems to me that this is just another publicity stunt from the police to scare the public into thinking they are having to relax the gun laws because the government won't give them enough money. Whether we think a home visit is a waste of time or not, it doesn't do any harm to the shooting community to be able to point to another example of how we are checked and re-checked to make sure we are suitable people to hold SGC / FAC. VicW
My last renewal 18 months ago was done without a home visit. A week after I returned the application form I got a call from the licensing office with a query on my change of medication and checking that other things such as security arrangements hadn't changed and that was it. I know others who had the same procedure. Vic.
