Song birds are safe!

I went out yesterday afternoon for a roost shooting session and spotted a small group of Magpies in the woods.

It was a bit wet and still for roosting so layed out in a clearing the 2 pigeons I had shot, setteled into the bushes changed to a lighter choke and put on the face veil.

I descided I was not going to take any shots except for the Magpies, thats when the pigeons came in!

It took a while as they called and flew about the area for ages before the first one settled near the pigeons; normaly I would have shot and gone home but thought I would wait it out.

It took another 20 minutes before they stopped nipping in one by one for a look and actualy came in as a group and settled on or near the bait.

Now I had my chance, I was sat down and had my gun up on my knee for the previous 20 minutes so movement was not a problem. I waited for 2 Magpies to get close together. I shot the first on the floor taking the 2nd magpie too as it was a foot behind the first :D

I then shot the 3rd as it lifted off the floor and the 4th as it tried to fly down the ride.

Oh what a smile on my face! :D

I had to retrieve one from a blackthorn hedge and have some thorns in me to prove it but wanted the 4 for a photo, im sure it will never happen again, both the chance and the accuracy

Smile is still fixed in place :D

Still cant believe my luck but think 32g of 6 shot out of an IC choke at 25 to 30 yards helped

The gun is a Benelli Raffaello, a great gun, 21 to 42 gram loads and has never failed. I had a Beretta and although a good gun it was fussy with loads and messy to clean, the Benelli is recoil operated not gas so cleaning is just too easy, sometimes I clean it for fun where as the Beretta needed to be kept clean.

nice shooting there.

A friend had just bought a 20g in the same but is having nothing but problems with it. at least 20 miss fires yesterday, click but no bang, not even a dent in the primer even had one cartridge that had a lump of the brass ripped out as it was trying to eject but on a plus side it came with a hush barrle as well so if he can get this cycling problem fixed then its feels and looks a good tool.
