FalconFN
It can be quite difficult to squeeze into their burrows. Oh, and take a lamp as it's dark down there.

libs
Block their tunnel at an active mound, msking sure you know which way it runs, stand silently over said mound and when the little sod starts to push dirt out shoot about where you blocked his tunnel. Its boring, really really boring and not that productive. Also don't shoot yourself in the feet, that would be bad.

highseas
i shoot a few on the quad. when on my rounds, moles root every 3-4 hours at the farm i used to work at the boss would flatten all the hills them work out what time or day he was rooting, the sit out in the landy when a hill came back up he would ninja over and put both barrles into it then dig with the spade fast as hell as the shot just stuns them if you dont hit them
njc110381
I've shot loads of Moles. Seriously, get yourself into a nice comfy deck chair with a magazine and a beer, keep still and look up often. When you spot the hill moving aim as if you're trying to hit about 6" under ground and you'll get them. It's easy, and a great way to spend a summer evening (even if the neighbours do think you're crazy). Edit - I should have added that a shotgun is loads better than a rifle. More weight to move the soil enough to squash them even if you're not spot on. I wouldn't even bother trying with a rifle unless you happen to be given the chance and it's all you have with you. I use 12g, standard 30g #6 Edited May 12, 2011 by njc110381
rcooke25552
or block up burrow and use a garden fork, although not as fun, very effective
mudpatten
I prefer to shoot them driven, with a pair of guns and a loader,or as second best, walked-up.

Bleeh
It's the blast-wave that stuns/kills the moles more so than the traveling shot, so a good hard slap with the flat of a shovel with have a simular effect.
Dekers
a mate of mine tells me that you can shoot moles? can this be done and if yes how? YES....but....... It's certainly not the accepted method and will be frustrating, I have only ever shot a mole once, about 10-12 years ago. The client had a mole problem and we were trying the electric probes (can you still get them, never used them since this job?), but I was actually in the clients back garden after the rabbits at the time, about 7 acres of it. I had the air rifle and saw a mole on the surface, not sure who was most surprised, anyway I was the only one that survived to tell the tale. I wouldn't be seriously considering mole shooting unless you have a lot of time on your hands!

CZ550Kevlar
There are a cluster of mole hills in one of the fields on my permission, all the other fields are not touched and i remember one day i was walking along the tree line with the shotgun getting into position for some flight lining and i saw a mole hill twitch and soil come out of the top so i stood and waited and after about 5 mins it moved again so i put 4 shots into it of 32 no6, it didn`t move after that and no idea if i got it but i was bored after that and went of on my merry way. HDAV
My grandad used to shoot them on his lawn (he did live on 10 acres surrounded by fields, Patience is the key, he used to sit out all day in a deck chair with a single barrel baikal on his lap and a 32g of No6 (or what ever the pre war load of choice was) used to get quite a few! vole
I tried it a couple of times but when I dug down to check there was nothing to show I had hit it . Have also tried trampolining on a hill that was moving . Again nothing apart from worried looks off my dog .
Maidment78
Been able to shoot two in lose earth with the air rifle, could a lot through traps and even managed to try a new method where you stick a kids hand held windmill thing in the ground, when it moves the sneak up and garden fork in the ground does the trick, but to be honest it is a lot of faffing about, traps work best for me and my lawn. njc110381
Are moles legal quarry with shotties ? I always assumed so. The general license covers birds but I don't know of a similar document for pest mammals? At least not one that lists accepted methods of control? As you can trap them just like a Rat or Squirrel and you can also shoot Rats and Squirrels, I've just shot at them without thinking about it?! Most of the moles I've gone for have come out of the ground with parts missing. It would take a big bloke on a shovel to do that and that's assuming they don't hear you coming and clear off. Buster223
if your lucky when u see it pushing the earth up stand right next to it and shoot straight down on the mole always worked:)
crosshair
Watch the mole pushing the earth up, you can always recognise the fresh earth. Quietly tiptoe to the mound, as the mole pushes the next lot of earth up, 12g straight down. I had 32 last year, most were dead and in bits, some are unmarked, and I always remove them by chucking them in the back of the Land Rover. When I went to remove them I was a few short, three had come around and were hiding under the junk, when I disturbed them they came face to face and world war three started, they are the most aggressive creatures, almost as wild as my mother in law. codling99
easy peasy, aound 7/8 in morning, look for fresh tumps, creep up on them ,wait a minuite or so,if they move ,shoot straight over top (one shot plenty).if they dont kick tumps flat and walk about other fields looking for other fesh tumps,do a circle and double back,if theres a fresh tump there when you get back you know he s working, just wait a few mins againand repeat till you catch him moving, can be rewarding some days, and very annoying other days, had 2 a few weeks ago whilst shooting in hide, took me 4 trips to tumps before i caught them working, other days they move first time when you get on them, good luck.
