Beardo
spilt grain from harvest - it's free and easy to obtain. el cheapo rice from your local indian store is another option.
lasbrisas
I used rice, the cheapest value stuff is fine, took a lot more than I though it would, had to go back and get some more
al4x
nip into B&Q and buy a bag of dried sand for brushing into the joints of block paving. You may need to put them into freezer type bags in that bag if it leaks but what it won't do is sprout or go mouldy if it gets wet The second plus is I'm after some as well
hyflier
I filled mine with polystyrene balls, works well, waterproof and light to carry
JRDS
Kiln dried sand, must be kiln dried if you want to get it through a funnel.

garyb
Plenty of opinions then! Personally I want something heavy that maintains it's "form" and withstands moisture...
Vermincinerator
I filled my tack driver bag with cat litter, it took 14kg :o and is far to heavy as well as always campacting under its own weight into the bottom of the bag. My window bag is filled with used walnut tumbling media and is much better, lighter and does not self compact. Ian.

gixer1
Pop corn kernels, they withstand damp well, are weighty enough, roll around nicely and can be bought at tescos cheaply. P~MX
sea salt -- keeps the moisture out too
apache
sea salt -- keeps the moisture out too Sea salt will attract water?
Beardo
That's the daftest idea ive heard yet... Salt crushes easily, attracts moisture and is bloody expensive, plus a full bag will weigh a tonne.
steve_b_wales
I filled mine with 'ordinary' sand, but placed it on trays in the oven to dry it out, then sifted it to remove any 'bit's' Steve.

Beardo
You'd need a huge amount (I reckon £60 worth or there abouts)

Vince Green
Wine bottle corks if you can find a source, restaurants etc. Otherwise you will just have to rise to the challenge. Its a tough job but somebody has to do it. Edited August 7, 2011 by Vince Green
Hornet 6
Why not plastic BB`s like bb guns use ? They must be pretty cheap ! Right idea but expensive, I used plastic granules from the local plastic injection moulding company, just the mixed sweepings from the shop floor. Neil.
