cleaning of semi auto

Twice through with the pull through using 09 on the first section and Hoppes oil on the last section and a quick once over with a lightly oiled rag after every outing. Full strip and clean 2 or 3 times a year, 6500+ carts through it in over 4 years and not a problem :)

Minor pitting is no problem at all but they can get worse/deeper if not seen to and kept clean and oiled. This means the barrel walls get thin and cannot take the pressure.

But I think the escort has a chromed barrel which shouldn't rust if cleaned properly and regularly.

A lot of the older Browning/Miroku's don't have chromed barrels but if you keep a little oil on them each time you use them they will outlast the owner easily.

evening all

just wondering how often i shud be cleaning my new hatsan escort

semi auto as iv herd that there for prone jamming if not cleaned

1000"s 500"cartriges etc :look:

The advice you have received is very sound but is mostly related to barrel pitting. With good quality cartridges (non-corrosive primers etc.) modern barrels can take a fair bit of neglect and had your question referred to an O/U I might have a agreed a quick pull through the barrels would do. Semi-autos however are much 'busier' guns with complex internal actions. Residues cleaned within a few hours are removed easily but left for a few weeks, even after 50 shells can take some shifting. I would recommend remove barrel and clean gas mechanism every time the gun is used, entire action and trigger mechanism monthly or after 500 shells which ever comes first. The Hatsan is a gas-regulated semi so make particularly sure the piston moves freely on the shaft and the gas ports are clear.

As above, the barrel is the easy part of a semi, especially a gas operated semi.

Lots of other parts need regular attention!

Clean EVERY time they are used is a good idea!

another point to remember ,is not to over oil an auto.I clean mine after every use, the exeption being the trigger group. And I don't put solvent or oil anywhere near the gas port or piston.I clean the magazine and fore end screw with a dry cloth,if there is any residue I brass brush it clean. If you oil theese parts and leave too much oil there, any burnt residue is likely to build up and you will have jams.I clean the action and finish it with a little hoppes dry lube on the metal to metal moving parts
