cooter
If I've told the neighbour once I've told them a dozen times keep your cat off my lawn, every time it takes a dump it takes me a week to fill the hole up.
Cosd
What a sad picture! I can understand if they need to be shot for reasons which endanger people or stock, but I don't think I'd be holding it up proud if I had to pull the trigger. What a magnificent animal. cooter
Cracking pic fella and some size of moggy right enough. The pic was taken by a friend of a work colleague who lives in Alberta. These are indeed a beautiful animal but as they have no predators they have to be controlled by trained hunters. Apparently this was taken under licence as it was getting a little too friendly with locals. Edited January 17, 2012 by cooter

Aye,they can be vicious right enough but thats the nature of the beast.I watched a programme and it was footage of one grabbing a wee boy at his house and his old dear was trying to get it off.Very very scary.I dont see the problem with getting a pic with it as opposed to a bag of pigeons, game, fox or roe at all.If i had shot it i sure would have got a few pics, and it doesnt make me a bad person, although plenty other things do. scolopax
They require extremely little skill to shoot. The skill is in the tracking and dog work. The hounds hunt then tree the poor ol moggy and the rifle man just homes in on the hounds with their cat which is in a tree and was feeling quite safe up until that point. Get nice and close to the tree, line up the cat and bang, nice new rug.
cooter
I can easily see how these fantastic beasts can take a person. The guy holding it up is not the ranger that shot it, although he is 6ft 3" tall and weighs around 18 stone. :o With the relatively easy access to lions on the savannas and Indian tigers being viewed from the back of elephants (been there and done that) these are one of the only truly wild creatures remaining. They have no problems stalking anything that comes into their domain and I personally would not knowingly go after one as you could just as easily become the hunted.

ollie
What a lovely specimen. Out of all the cats Cougars have to be my favourite. Like someone already said, I wouldn't fancy hunting one unless I had someone to watch my back.

Lord Geordie
sad bast--- Exactly the same quote came from the mouth of my GF and She uses it for ANYONE who shoots no matter what it is! Pigeon's, rabbit's etc and She gets REALLY arsey when people put up pictures. Personally it's each to their own. There is obviously a need to control numbers of these beasts as is there for Bear's down to rats and I have no problem with it. If they were close to Extinction I could understand but there is NO difference in showing a big bag of pigeons, a fine stag or a days walked up or driven result to this. It is the end result that matters. As long as the kill was clean swift and respectful then I have no problem. Very nice Pic by the way..... Tel Time
Given half a chance i would be shooting that as well, i doubt very much i could afford the "TAG" for it, thats what pays for the rangers out there and they prosecute big time if you don't have the right licence's/tags to hunt. Good shooting i say
