T-Bolt94
Is it a good idea to have a sachet of Silica Gel in the bottom of the gun cabinet to remove moisture or is this an unnecessary precaution? Or are there better alternatives? Thanks

Trevorevans
I went for vp90 as was told that silica gel will dry out the woodwork of the gun as well and cause damage ie splits/cracks, don't know if that's true or not but thought it better not to risk it. TaxiDriver
Surely those piddly little stamp sized packets arent gonna suck so much moisture out of the wood/air that the stock dries out Seriously !!!!! And if they're that good, Wouldn't you have to be changing them every few days ?
kiffy
their not all stamp sized, we get them in work around the size of a fag packet... i dont know about damnage to stocks but persoanlly id prefer to trust vp90 that silica
Boristhedog
I hope the OP will allow a question about VP90. I use VP90. VP90 works by depositing a 'mono molecular, self healing film on any exposed metal object'. I always wipe the metal surfaces of my guns with an oily cloth before putting them away. Does anyone know whether the oil would stop VP90 working properly?

Robin128
Got large boxes of this in all cabinets but lay awake most nights terrified that my wooden stocks will dry out and crumble in a fortnight. Dry them out every year in the oven per instructions. Let wet guns dry out before putting them away. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/cid=0/k=silica+gel/t=P/ksubmit=y/Products/All/search=silica_gel
