kyska
? I think they are getting at a rifle being used by a non FAC holder or (I'm summising) how old is Adam?

kyska
27 ish Ah, its not that then, must be the 'occupier' legalities.
al4x
My car wobbles around too much in a 15mph wind for me to use the mirror as a rest. thats the point add 300 yards, a carp shooting rest and an inexperienced user and you have all the makings of an accident. that range a miss is a miss but ID and all the important things is very hard. As Docholiday pointed out, if you are mentoring in the right way of doing things this highlighted all the wrong things.
Archie-fox
ive shot 100s of foxes, anything over 200 yards i will leave for another time, not that im a bad shot but i want to be sure its a clean kill, there will allways be another time for the longer range foxes... cockercas
There is no Problem with ID at 300meters. Swiss is right Adams 27/28 years old. Adam has permission to shoot aswell. Again. Adam is not in-experienced. Just never shot a fox.

al4x
this rangefinder its not got 300 meters and feet mixed up has it? under the lamp even with no filter its hard to get a 100% positive ID at that range. We do have muntjac which makes you more cautious down here though i guess
cockercas
No,the range finder is in meters. Using LF170 with no filter. ID is really no Problem. And if I didn't shoot foxes over 200yards I'd of shot about 3 this year.
al4x
thats when calling is the key, and being in the right place at the right time. With no calling most of mine would be well out but the key is getting them in close and personal, makes it far more exciting. Mostly now we leave them be and wait for a better shot if its at that sort of distance as once any cover is involved it is hard to ID them that far out and we have the same setup. cockercas
No chance of calling this fox. It had seen it all before. It was an old fox and was usually gone when the lamp is turned on.
simon6ppc
No chance of calling this fox. It had seen it all before. It was an old fox and was usually gone when the lamp is turned on. it must ave come across some in experienced fox shooters if you ask me.seriously thow it was a good shot, but any one who tells the truth would say luck was on your side how it was shot. but we all do it at times as well as missing as well,so thats it realy. did you say you use 58 grain v.max, that should be very flat in a 243, and fast, does it still group as good as the 90 grain..i use 58,s in mi 6ppc for fox. there bang on and do thumb nails at 200 on good days Edited October 8, 2012 by simon6ppc
cockercas
2in groups @300m. All shooting involves some luck. This fox has been around since I started shooting on that farm. There is a lad who shoots over the boundary, I think he takes quite a few pot shots, Well I know he dose.

al4x
Simon I have to say I can do a sub 2inch group at 300 with my .243 but it sure isn't really windy and off the wing mirror. I'd love to see a group shot by the same person on paper under the same conditions, my guessing is it would need to be a big piece of paper
cockercas
Seen as the majority of foxes I shoot are taken of the wing mirror and most foxes shot are 200m plus then I'd say I can do it consistly. I don't practise of bags. I practice of the mirror, bonnet. I also don't practise just in daylight. ill punch paper in the dark under a lamp. That's Maybe why I don't struggle when it comes to a 300m fox.
al4x
you weren't shooting, what we would like is your mate to shoot at paper from the mirror at 300 meters on a windy night. I've a roll of A2 paper here if you need a bigger target
