adam f
Do any of you work your dogs in a jacket during the winter? Do any of you us a drying or warming jacket after a wet / cold days work? If yes to either of the above, what ones? I've a cocker if that helps. Adam
oscarsdad
I just bought an equifleece jumper type thing for my cocker for after he has been working as he is a big girls blouse and shivers at the slightest hint of cold or wet. ETO
My Mum is making my dogs a towel coat for when they get in the car after a walk. Something that can be washed and re-used. It just stops water being shaken all over the car.
al4x
unless wildfowling don't do it, the dog doesn't need it and it is likely to get hung up on brambles and a worse case is causing it to overheat. Something to dry it at lunch / the end of the day is fine but not to actually work in.
Canis
Ive a couple of equifleeces for my terrier for thie times he's out but inactive in winter months- such as locked in the car. I wouldnt want him wearting it when running about though -they are made of THINSULATE and he wounld certainly overheat very quickly in my view an excellent product and they are made in many sizes so they end up an exact fit. pontbeck
I bet your terrier doesn`t live outside. Bill
oscarsdad
The one I have for my cocker fits my terrier as well. Whilst the cocker is fine with it on and appears to enjoy being toasty warm, the terrier is clearly not keen at all, I think he thinks wearing a coat is a bit gay for a terrier lol! adam f
It's more for when she's finished. Thanks for the advice, I like the look for the equifleece ones. What one did people go for? Coat, jumper or polo neck?

-Mongrel-
only on thin coated coursing dogs, greyhound, whippet etc. if a dog needs a coat in winter its the wrong dog for the job Can see where you're coming from, but unless it's kenneled outside, I'd disagree a bit. My lab isn't kenneled outside and as such has a less thick coat, when we are wildfowling, she will feel the cold eventually, I resolve this by using a jacket. A warm, happy dog is going to work better and also be less injury prone.
Big Mat
only on thin coated coursing dogs, greyhound, whippet etc. if a dog needs a coat in winter its the wrong dog for the job My lab lives inside and doesnt have as thick a coat as i'd like so i'll be getting her a jacket for when we are out wildfowling! Actionpigeons
I use a jacket on my lab when Pigeon shooting in the winter, never use one on her when picking up as we are on the move, I would never use one on the Springer. I rub all my dogs down with a towel after work, I also have a tube heater in the kennel even thow I kennel three dogs together
kent
The GWP wore a neo jacket fowling, he had a very thick coat but was nowere near as waterproof as the lab. If anyone wants an Extra large neo cabelas jacket in duckbling cammo get in touch (only good for dogs bigger than a normal lab) suit a big chessie though. Would never put one on a working dog outside of winter water work from a hide personally, serious risk of overheating!
welsh1
I put one of these on after he has been working,it wicks away most of the wet and keeps him warm until i get home and towel him down,he loves it,tail goes like mad putting it on and he curls up in his cage, always looks warm. And on cold days i put it on him on the way out just to start warming him up a bit before working. http://www.smithscou...sible_Coat.html

sky gipsy
Have a look here http://www.gundoggear.co.uk/dog-vests--coats-29-c.asp I use the 3mm Avery 3mm dog parka for my lab when really cold on the marsh. They are top people to deal with too. PS I have just noticed that they are doing a deal on combined jack Pyke neoprene vests with a quilted vest for after working. ziplex
I bought 'Toggs for dogs' neoprene coats for my two when it's cold enough/on the foeshore in winter, (the GSP will virtually jump into hers at the slightest hint of any cold) They are basic coats but are tough with a strong/heavy zip that won't break. He`s damn right Bill your right my terrier does live indoors -That probably makes him gay does it ? - because he lives indoors, to aid cleanliness and stop him being too hot, he is regularly shorn to 1/2 inch. ( think canine crew cut ). he has a fleece coat for the times i have to leave him inactive, somewhere unheated (such as in the car) in very low temparatrures ( say below 5 c), to reiterate, Equifleece does the some really products for this. I will admit to owning a pair of long johns . I would accuse someone wearing them every day of being an uphill gardener but when i found myself above the snowline at -20o Farenheight to have not worn them would have been reckless stupidity. (For the record my terrier is of the "try to eat it , if that doesan't work start a fight with it or rape it pursuasion" and certainly in not GAY)
