the point is you can defend yourself, you just can't set out and prepare to kill intruders.

Personally I sleep very soundly at night and am not of the paranoid persuasion. But I do know no one would break in un anounced as the dog would create merry hell first.

A big dog is a very useful aid to a good nights kip or a relaxed evening out :good: ,especially if you live somewhere remote.

What about cross bows?

Mind you, they are a bit tricky to reload - that's why I always keep at least 4 barnet tridents primed and ready to go under the bed next to the kids toys and have the odd one duck taped round the house under tables, behind mirrors and pictures and strapped to the leg etc.

Clunk-click. Bravo two zero out.

You mean you don't have a vac-packed one hanging off the shower head?!! These crims don't just strike when its convenient you know!

Always have some thing to hand and a pair of steel toes cap boots by the bed. I hope that I never have a situation where I will need to grab any thing to defend the house and family, but if it comes to it I will.

On the hand gun side of things tho, what bout airsoft and c02 very realistic technically none voilent

dogs work not just because the burglar is necessarily scared but they know anyone home will be awake and most don't want a confrontation. Though we have had ex cons selling round here recently and they all run, bit like the DNDS delivery bloke he runs well

the fact is if you aren't acting in self defence then its still going to be difficult to get out of prison, keeping a gun by your bed should require all guns to be taken from you and licence torn up.

So anyone that bolts their cabinet under their bed too then alex ;)

So we accept that going the way our American cousins and having specific weapons for home defence is a long way off (probably not in my life time) but hypothetically speaking if I own a shotgun and have it locked in my bedroom, would I get away with shooting an intruder in the chest with some home loads, maybee rice (not egg fried, that probably wouldn't work) of airsoft bbs.

If your gun is in your bedroom then you are worse off using specific rounds prepared for the event than a good old load of commonal garden 6's

If the cabinet is there and you could get the gun out and loaded before the intruder came in then fine go for it no problem at all. You could take it downstairs and ask them to clear off and if threatened shoot them legitimately as well. Its all about using what comes to hand but without keeping the gun loaded by the bed.

Libs, when did you take a piccy of my shower?

I have also set up a series of traps in my house - growing the hardwood tree in the lounge to get a decent size branch with enough spring in it to pull off the Rambo stylee shin swiper was a big ask of the missus, but when it comes to home defence there's no half measures in the Mungler household.

Seriously, why have stuff as gay as windows locks, CCTV or a decent Red care alarm hooked upto the police station when you can give it the full on medieval shizzle.

Anyways, I was talking all of this through with my ex SAS mates and we all agreed that we would just need our bare hands. I can't say any more other than that I am ex SAS, have seen lots of active duty including the Libyian embassy siege and I took a bullet for the Queen.

Some of you may remember The Fox, a rapist and thief who broke into a lot of houses in the area where I used to live during 1984. I and a lot of other shooters in the area kept our shotguns by our beds. I fitted a lock to the bedroom door so I wouldn't be caught unawares whilst asleep.

Oh I have not a thought in my head about what I'd do with intruders, the cabinet keys aren't upstairs anyway! we've been done over twice already.

As Mungler has eloquently put it, we have a dog, double glazing and a decent alarm system, but to be safe I wear a Freddie Kruger glove in bed, if they break in I'll wait, then once near the bed, 'swish', and off come eyelids and ears, I also have a stripey jumper and have melted my face on the griddle for full horror effect. No-one messes with me...
