I have saw some parents LASH their kids and ONE #### PUNCH his son and how I kept my hands to myself i don't know :good:

Respect is the name of the game and it is earned BOTH ways.

That is abuse, I would've ended up losing my shotgun cert. if I would of seen that.

When our kids are naughty, they get a good smack. was about 4 months ago last smack though. Must say though the teachers really compliment us end of last term about the kids manners, and made us real proud.

Have found though with the oldest, a grounding or a chat does more

I used to but as she`s 24 soon I`d probably come off worse :good:

Same here :/ , my eldest is 21 and if her 19yr old sister didn't attempt to batter me then i'd suffer the harrowing experience of their mother weilding a whisky bottle in one had and a sabatier in the other!, funny but if I muck around and 'make out' in hitting either of them the dogs take offence too ;) ..........couldn't win whichever way you look at it...

Joking aside tho', they were rarely smacked and they're little crackers the both of 'em, the most important thing we instilled in them was to respect others and they do, kids respond more to talk and explanation rather than weilding the back of your hand I think....

I used to smack them when it was required. It seems to have worked as despite having me as a father they are both well adjusted lads with good manners and a respect for elders.

While I have no kids (at least that I will admit to :good: ) I used to get my butt wacked with a belt, hair brush, coat hanger etc all the time when I was young, however I know that I deserved it every time and I shudder to think of what kind of adult that I would have turned into if my parents didn't.

When I do have kids (that I will admit to that is :/ ) I will smack them when they earn it.

errrr.. last time I checked its against the law to smack a child, so some of you have just admitted to an offence :good:

Hunter!

FYI smacking (within reason) is NOT an offence. What IS an offence is brutality and plain abuse.

Smacking Allowed (within reason)

A slap on the hand or back of the leg is seen as reasonable as long as it leaves NO MARK or Bruise!!!

Use of a Belt-cane-cat of 9 tails-birch or Slipper etc is now against the law. I used to get a Belt AND slipper as a kid as well as a few other punishments and I never turned out wrong so as i say WITHIN REASON i don't see a prob.

What i DO get annoyed about is someone who lashes at a child repeatley!!!

Within reason (when all other avenues of punishment are drained) a smack to the Hand or Leg can have the desired effect.

my sons 10 hes a nightmare at school fighting shouting at the teachers running amock causing chaos but at home hes as good as gold!

i guess he just dont like school!!

i told him if he dont behave ill take his .410 away he still misbehaved!

then i told him i would sell his motor cross bike he still misbehaved!

he lives with his mum shes taken the playstation nintendo tv n stereo away he still misbehaves!

last week his mum came to me in tears about his behaviour at school so i gave him a good telling off,the next day at school he was his usuall self causing disruption every where!

so i told him he would get a wallap if he continued to be naughty,

so on thurs night i had to give him a smack on the bum (which hurt my hand) i think i was more upset than him afterwards.

he has promised to behave at school now but i know hell just be himself and cause more chaos.

the school dont have time to put him on report or inform us of his daily activitys!

GOD KNOWS WHAT MY NEXT STEP WILL BE

can you put yes i do but i hate it ill tick that box !!

I voted yes, though in reality I hardly ever do. A stinging bottom is reserved only for the most strongest of punishment. It certainly never did me any harm when my father did the same with me.

Generally, they get punished by loosing thier favorite past time or being made to stand in the corner with thier nose against the wall. A minute for every year of thier life, certinaly seems to sort them out.

I wouldn't assault some one I didn't like let alone my own family. I used to get a clip from time to time as a kid no more than most of my m8s. What I found was that until my mid 20s if some one did somthing I didn't like I thought it was fair to hit them!! Assault is wrong. Dont get me wrong It was not somthing I did with any regularity and I have never been prosecuted for assault.

This doesnt apply to me cause I dont have kids but I got "the slipper" when I was younger when I mis-behaved but I havent turned out mentally disturbed or scarred as those for the ban have said happens.

Today I seen an oriental guy with a toddler, she was misbehaving and this guy whacked her on the bum so hard she fell over onto the ground. This was infront of a bus stop full of people waiting so 3 or 4 people witnessed it happen. He carried on walking round the corner then a few people from the bus stop walked along to see where they were going to. They all seemed shocked and horrified.

I dont know whether he was right to do it or not but I guess today that would for a court to decide and certainly not members of the public like us. I dont like this government meddling in the private lives of parents on how to bring up their kids, I think its wrong.

Reading your post it seems you are making the same mistakes as me.

My daughter is just seven, and too clever for her own good. Unfortuantly she has picked up my sense of sarcasm. SHe always has an answer for everything and will not do what she is told when she is told. This drives me to distraction!

When you make a threat make sure you stick to it. Threaten to sell his 'crosser? Then you have to sell it because if you don't then he knows he will not be punished!

I am having to come down hard on my girl at the moment but I always explain why I have done it and hopefuly the point is being made.

I'l give it another few weeks then I'll get the cattle prod out................... :good:
