JJsDad
With your budget its going to be a boxlock non-ejector by one of the lesser known makers. Most of these are 60 years old or far greater and will invariably have 2.5 in chambers. I have no doubt you can pick something suitable up; but be very very carefull. If you are not totally confident of checking for disguised or hidden faults take somebody along who is experienced. Spare parts for these old guns are non existent so its vey much a case of "buyer beware". Gozzy is giving good advice. My mate picked up an AYA 25in. boxlock ejector from a shop for £575. The gun is virtually mint and the reliability and spares back up for AYAs is superb.
samboy
I would go for AYA too.

Blackpowder
Currently I am shooting a 123 year old John Dickson, also have a W.R.Pape approaching a hundred years old, my Army and Navy hammer gundont know its age and have a game scene engraved Robert Hughs of Birmingham box lock non ejector with damascus barrels which I need to get rid of to free up cabinet space. Buy a decent British gun and its there for several lifetimes, as for 2 1/2 inch chambers never found that a problem for game, pigeons or inrange wildfowl. Guest cookoff013
check out merkels, they come up cheap, but are built like a tank, the body is identical to the double rifles. got a new one before the recession, and the £ to euro was good. only downside, they are classic guns so double triggers and slightly short in the stock. Paul T
Drop Wabbitbosher a pm and ask him what he's got. I got my Damascus barrelled E.Harrison from him and it's spot on. He'll probably have some nice old English guns that will drop within your budget. Might even get a Damascus one if you're lucky. Don't buy from a gun shop - they seem to really overvalue English guns. I've seen some loose actioned, pitted guns for around the £600 mark that I wouldn't touch with a bargepole!! They'll still have them come the next millenium... I wouldn't worry about spares either. The main things to 'go' are either firing pins or springs and there is almost always an alternative available. The main thing is to get a proper gunsmith and not just a shop that sends them away. As for 2 1/2" shells, you can get them at any gun shop as it's a common size for game (& pigeon) shooting. Let us know what you get.

HDAV
I really rate the BSA/SKB 200E single trigger ejector classic design built in japan in the 60's very good guns and in your budget 2 3/4 chambers very usable being more modern they are full nitro proof. not as nice as proper handmade english gun with Damascus barrels but a good one will be hard to find. I'm biased i have one that was my grandfathers.... http://www.guntrader...120811163136008 Edited November 25, 2012 by HDAV
