Royboy
I'm left eye dominant and have tryed the easy hit with no joy, closing one eye with no joy etc so tonight I tryed the dot on glasses trick and I can see perfect down the barrel ! I'm gona try it out on the clays next and hopefully my scores will increase. But what I was wondering was does anybody else use this method on real game ? thepasty
I'm glad you posted this, it looks like I'm left eye dom too and was wondering what my options are for getting around it. Can you explain the dot method?
Royboy
You place a dot of tape or vasoline on a certain part of your left lense ( for me it's top left corner ) and when you mount your gun the dot distracts the left eye and forces the right eye to look down the rib which allows you to shoot both eyes open ! Hopefully !!
dog tired
Im also left eye dominant so i took the right hand lense from a pair of old sunglasses, it works wonders but i dont half look a tit.
-Mongrel-
I shoot with a triangle of Scotch tape (translucent), it's about 7-10mm along the edges,on my shooting glasses lens. It's positioned to block the rib from my left vision once the gun is mounted but it doesn't impede my peripheral vision. Seems to work for me. I suffer from dominance issues more when I'm tired so it's not too severe, but it plays havoc with my shooting if I don't use the 'block' even though I probably don't need it all the time. Royboy
Why is scotch tape better ? Is it more see through ?
HDAV
I tried it, didn't work so I shoot left handed you can change shoulders in 2 weeks with lots if discipline. Essex Keeper
I've tried everything the best thing I've found is Vaseline works really well just a little dab
fireboy
i am right handed left eye dominant i use scotch tape on left side lense and my shooting has improved 100%
-Mongrel-
Why is scotch tape better ? Is it more see through ? No, the exact opposite actually. If you used sellotape you'd see through it. You could use any solid tape but I find the scotch tape is less intrusive in my vision as it still lets some light through. I don't actually notice it when shooting, whereas with a black tape I was forever noticing it. Pic attached shows the basic set up, although the eagle eyed will notice that I haven't actually peeled the top edge of the triangle away! Royboy
Right I'll have to go buy some vasoline and scotch tape and see what I prefer. Does anyone use this method on the real stuff ?
-Mongrel-
I use clear lenses the same way when 'fowling.

Gordon R
I have used a patch of PVC tape for the last 20 years. Works superbly.
gamekeeper1960
I use microporse tape (the stuff you use when you cant wear normal pasters) you cant see through it but i lets light through which I find gives me a better view.and I use it all the time for game and clay shooting . demonwolf444
I've only just got into shotguns... You could try learning to shoot left handed? I have severe left eye dominance, i have inherited a lazy right eye which from ages 7 to 17 has just got worse and worse, aged 14 i swapped shooting my air rifles to shooting left handed, and now i shoot everything left handed. My eyesight in my right eye has continued to deteriorate to the point where using just it alone i can not read at all. Dont worry about the higher cost of left handed guns, its very easy to shoot with right handed guns with no problems from my personal experience. thepasty
The trouble is I dont just shoot shotguns, I've also got scoped rifles which are all right handed and the strong left eye doesnt effect shooting them, with my semi auto I'd get hot shells and other "bits" in the face/arm and my .17 is a thumbhole stock. Not being one for not giving things a try, I could shoot shotguns lefty and rifles righty, there are a few things I do left handed like using a knife and fork so my brain should be fairly open to the idea Untill now I've shot shotguns with my left eye closed as I knew no better (untill I started wanting to do better and did a load of reading on how a shootgun "should" be shot), whats the reasons for this not being the way to do it? I can see that shooting with both eyes open will give the shooter much better judgement with speed and distance. thepasty
how long did it take to become and feel natural? Whats peoples experience of the Easy Hit product? not sure I could try this as I've got a C-lect adjustable choke stuffed on the end of the barrel? I'm down to a 7mm circle of frosted tape - just positioned so when I close my Right eye, my left one cannot see the bead / end of barrel. Works great for me and with the tape on the inside of the lense I can wipe rain off the outside no problem. ATB

neil3728
I'm right handed but left eye dominent. I just shoot left handed, weird at first but i have got use to it very quickley. Infact i can't work out how to shoot right handed now.
Elmer Fudd.
I suffered left eye dominance coming back to shot gun shooting after a 20 year lay off. So I tried these and after 6 months don't need them anymore. I know the scotch tape trick works the same but didn't find that out 'till afterwards. http://www.shotspot.co.uk/ Definately worth a look. For me a few months, practise dry mounting LH 10 times a night for 2 weeks before firing live ammo, and continue for 3-4 weeks after, i hadn't been shooting RH for long, Easy hit did not work for me...............
