Chef1982
I am new to shooting and was wondering.... If for example I was to shoot a lot of pigeons I would keep a few for eating but is there any particular way of disposing of the rest of the dead birds? The reason I ask is I have seen many people on other hunting forums with many rabbits crows squirrels pigeons etc but surely you can't just put them in the bin? castletyne
If its lots i would just bag them and take them to council dump or just a few say 10 i would dump them in the woods Or the farmer may have somewhere
Fatcatsplat
Er..............Game Dealer. He'll take the pigeons off you for sure and the rabbits if they're headshot with a rifle.
WelshLamb
Put them in fox traps. Split the guts on a rabbit and use it with crow decoys to bring the crows in
RED BEARD
Put them in fox traps. Split the guts on a rabbit and use it with crow decoys to bring the crows in this is good advice.......................but this leads to even more bodies for him to get rid of.i'd say stick them in the muck hear or bin/skip. JBS
If your new to shooting I wouldn't worry about shooting a lot of pigeons they are much harder to hit than you might think! Once you get the hang of it find a game deals nearby and sell them, there is no excuse for throwing edible/sellable birds in a muck heap IMO Edited February 1, 2013 by JBS

Once you get the hang of it find a game deals nearby and sell them, there is no excuse for throwing edible/sellable birds in a muck heap IMO I very much agree, I wasn't aware that I could just go to a game dealer, I'm not fussed about money either I just believe that if its edible then to throw them away would be silly, to me rabbit and pigeon are enjoyable to eat but my freezer is only so big
FalconFN
As said, take them to a game dealer, that way the farmer is happy, the birds/rabbits aren't wasted, some has a nice meal and you get some cash. Alternatively, the farmer may well have a 'stink pit' for dead animals.
Imperfection
Either find a game dealer who'll buy them or a pub which sells local game dishes.I get 25p a bird. Ferrals however are worthless.
pegasus bridge
Ask around, you will know people that will take them for food. Having said that I often leave rabbits, they don't take long to go!

carpentermark
buy yourself a second hand cheap chest freezer off gumtree, admag etc. (if you have room) ive got 2 in my garage and only paid £40 each for them, theyre a bit battered but they work and i can keep approx 300 birds in them. Reece
Don't dispose of them. You could always give them over to a game dealer or butcher (pretty sure you need a game meat hygiene license or something if you want to sell them - see BASC website). Always make an effort to use them.
bobt
any surplus game I have goes to the old folk in the village, well I give it to one old guy who passes it on,
demonwolf444
Surplus game - to people in the village or game dealer. Pigeons just crown them and freeze them, very good eating - good video on crowning a pigeon on the videos section on here i think its a sticky. Anything you can not be bothered to do just take them to a game dealer. I try and eat everything i shoot if possible, sometimes i hang them and forget to do them in time, but crows and squirrels are firmly off the table, im tempted with squirrel but its just one step closer to eating rats. Crows tend to get buirried in fields, but my ferret loves a good squirrel. Edit - carpenter mark thats exactly what i do, got a freezer for 22 quid collected on ebay from down the road, big chest freezer. I fill it slowly over the season and use it up over the summer. Although over the last summer i accidentially unplugged it to use the angle grinder - what a mistake to make. Vince Green
Just slice off the breast meat and take it home for the freezer. As for the rest of the pigeon, well the fox will find it quickly enough even under a thick hedge. So will the crows and the odd member of the hawk family. Game dealers in general won't be interested unless there is a reasonable amount, otherwise its not worth their while for a few pigeons. dadioles
I take surplus rabbits to my local wildlife park / zoo. They use them to feed the tigers and snakes. There is no need to gut them or do anything with them as long as they are reasonably fresh, next day is ok.

Well its something many do including myself I also go lamping rabbits and many times they are just left where they were shot Its just vermin control to me the same as foxes and crows Edited February 5, 2013 by castletyne
Reece
Well its something many do including myself I also go lamping rabbits and many times they are just left where they were shot Its just vermin control to me the same as foxes and crows Depends on the shooting. If you are doing it for pest control, then it doesn't really matter. It's when they are shot mostly for sport that it does. For example, the cases of game shoots allegedly dumping shot game is unacceptable because the birds would have been shot for no reason. Not the case with vermin control such as grey squirrels, where the animals are still shot for good reason, even when not utilised for food. That being said, it is still a good idea to use what you can - I mean, why not?
