Essex Ed
Hope somebody with greater knowledge than me can help! I'm really struggling to get the barrel of my maxus clean especially near the breach end. There is what I would call "blast marks" which I can only get rid of with excessive use of the phosphor bronze brush, which seems harsh. I have been using a combination of Tetra Gun Copper Solvent, Gunsol Oil and WD40. None of them seems to touch it. As far as cartridges go I've been using Express Pro Comp, Rio Game and Kent HV Pigeon. I would very much appreciate any advice on cleaning products or techniques. Many thanks. Albert 888
Get this on my sx3 and 425 when using plastic wads. Happens in the bore just after the chamber. To remove run some tissue paper down to clean then use a battery drill with a cleaning rod with the phosphor bronze brush on and a squirt of wd40 after the plastic build up has gone just push some clean tissue through. BerettaSV10
Use a chamber brush. +1 The chamber brush is slightly bigger and has a lot more bristles than a standard bronze brush, had the same problem on my barrels until started using the chamber brush. Underdog
That sounds like lead. A tight clean cloth patch should comfirm it. If so; Wrap a towel around the barrel for you to hold onto. Now pour a full kettle of boiling water down the barrel and into a bucket. After that use tight patches and brushes and the lead should come out. The heat should dry the barrel out but do lube after. Albert 888
My bet would be on plastic not lead as only put steel down my auto.

alastair0903
I put my bronze brush on the cleaning rod , then attach to a cordless drill . I have found it works better wrapping wire wool around the brush to , this seems harsh but it is the only way I can get my Maxus clean
kent
Why the heck use copper remover?- aint very likely you have any copper to remove unless your on plated shot
P~MX
get some Froglube into your barrels and it'll sort out all your lead and plastic makes, to clean my Maxus with Froglube for the first 3/4 times I put some FL on a bronze brush into a rod and put it in a cordless drill and used the excess RPM to generate some heat that Froglube initially needs for the first few times to get into the pours of the metal, a couple of minutes with the drill then snake it with a nice clean 2x2 square of cloth over the snake, replace the cloth ( I turn it over ) and repeat and it should be spotless If it's not do it again until clean, after 3/4 clean downs like this there will be no more plastic or lead marks again and just snakin it will be enough, I'm a cleanin nut so I use Froglube every other cleanin, I used to have a box with a dozen different cleaners & oils for different jobs now I'v only Froglube for every part of my guns. I haven't found it that effective though.

Canis
1. the spiral wound phosd bronze brush that came in your cleaning kit when you purchased it - bin it as much use as tits on a a fish 2. purchase Payne Galway type brushes phos bronze brushes - these are available in standard and chamber for each bore size. 3 for reguklar cleaning use the P G brush with barrel cleaner youngs 303 or legia etc . i would suspect that the maxius is back bored ( the proof marks will say 18.5 or 18.6 or 18.7 rather than 18.4) in which case you might find that the chamber brush works fine for the entire barrel length. the3n push throug clean 4x2 on a jag or alternarttively and just as good bog roll/ kitchen roll in a wad without a jag untill the patchesd go clean. for the residual fouling that you mention the chamber brushes larger diameter should help with removal . 4 occaisionally placing the cleaning rod and PG brush in the jaws a battery drill can be a good way of removing any stuborn marks such as the ones the op talks about . Paul223
Have you tried using some felt wad carts once the barrel is warmed up?
Tim Kelly
My maxus is the same. The forcing cone seems quite long and I expect the standard bronze brush isn't a large enough diameter to properly scrub the forcing cones. A chamber brush is probably the answer as others have said. Albert 888
Sorry, did'na realise we are talking about your auto! U. I wasnt being funny dont get it when using felt wads only plastic and if so the lead shouldnt even touch the barrel with plastic wads. Get this all the time with the sx3 wich is very similar to the maxus. But I will invest in a chamber brush if easier.
