recomend me a good pigeon cartridge!

Recommended Posts

Eley hawk hb pigeon

just bought a slab of them in 6 1/2 s . only used a couple but seem very good,

if your after a decent cart for pigeons then any will do as long as they are cheap, no 6,s seem to be the prefered size but even 7 1/2.s will do close enough

Assuming decoying and ignoring the two extremes of ranges, 61/2 - 2.5mm - Eley or, if you can find them, Rottweil. Really, though any 6, 61/2 or 7 will suffice but avoid using clay pigeon loads - a sporting bird deserves to be treated as such.

Just one question. Who is the more sporting shooter, the one killing birds stone dead with 'clay' cartridges or the one pricking birds with a 'pigeon' cartridge?

It's the one who is using the most suitable cartridges and that wont be the cheapskate shooting clay cartridges.

oh yes let me use black gold in my light weight sxs....I love the recoil of a gun bounceing about over my chest or shoulders.

shot 3 through a browning o/u and there punchy

see your point lol but still nearly everybody i know who shoots game uses em! They are punchy but i suspect 30g 6s will be there maximum for comfort in a sbs!

The premise of the question was bogus. You wont ***** a pigeon with a cartridge designed for the job when a clay cartridge would have killed it. That's just wishful thinking.

Not so.

If i shot 50 pigeons for 50 shots using a clay cartridge, and another shooter killed 40 and pricked 10 with pigeon cartridges, which would be the more sporting shot?

And by the way, a pigeon cartridge could indeed ***** a pigeon where a clay cartridge would kill it. The reverse also applies. A lot of shotgun shooting is down to luck - lucky pellets hitting the target etc etc
