All i can say is i STILL haven't gave in i still try when pigeon season starts but it's getting more and more toward the PAYING to join a Pest rid or the NPPC. Now with this new 2007 palava of IF a farmer lets someone on his land and they shoot game out of season HE may lose his subsidies from the Government That will do NOTHING but close the doors for people looking for land for the first time and make a lot more farmers more reluctant to let anyone on their land So you really need to get out and try now before this new legislation comes into force It got so bad i joined a shooting club just so i could get out with the air rifle granted it's knock over targets but it's better than sitting at home twiddling my thumbs and it's honing my skills also. I am 35 ex forces no criminal record not so much as a point on my licence and it's STILL grim Just don't give in is the best info i can offer. codling99
well mate, depends on what guns you have and what you intend on shooting,me personally ,drive round in me jeep, knock doors ,in me green army trousers, and palin t shirt ,camo jacket and guns in boot ,just in case, and ask is there any chance of permission to do a bit of shooting.if they ask what you wanna shoot ,i say whatever you want me to .if they got sheep, good chance theyhave trouble with foxes,if they got crops, good chance they having trouble with crows or pigeons.if you drive around an see freshly sown fields, with crows/pigeons all over it,stop and ask if they need any help with them.i never dress smartly to go looking for farms ,personally i think it look more realistic ,whenyou turn up looking like a good hunter, with your wellies and camo jacket in jeep ,than turning up all smart ,they proably thinking ,his he safe with gun.only my opinion mind, works for me in wales anyways, got at least 10 farms allready this year ,some for .22,some for .222,and some for 12 bore for crows.hope this helps in some way but keep trying mate, sooner or later someone will say yes.especilly for birds, when they hammerig their crops, and your there with a gun. Lord Geordie
Trouble WE have up north is most the land belongs to LORDS here not the farmers the Farmers are tennants so in order to get shooting rights can be a pain in the ***. Really the best bet here is to get to know the keeper offer beating etc for some vermin work but it's STILL scarce Northumberland (Newcastle up to the scottish borders) is Estate land mainly hence the hardship finding places to shoot as there are a lot of Syndicates who have sole shooting and lots of estate shoots (keeperd land) who don't like just giving shooting to a stranger. Middlesbrough sunderland etc down over is generally all Farmers land. When i lived in Beadnell i had a shoot in Alnwick on a farm (air rifles only) but when i moved back to Newcastle i lost it Anyway like i say i now seem to have a place to go (unless the guy has alzheimer's ) all good things come to he who waits  LG

justme
I think you just have to be in the right place at the right time & mix in the right circles. I was picking up some ducks (alive for eggs) localy & the subject of rabbits came up & 20 seconds later I have permision to shoot them when I want (we just call to let em know I will be there). This is great for me as my land (28 acres inc 2 acre woodland) has NO rabbits on it. Just need to sort a cheap lamping kit now (any offers). I am only going to be shooting them with an airgin but they were happy for me to use what I want. Justme

Dave 101
Hi Guys This is my first entry on this site , I have been shooting on and off for over twenty years now . I started out helping a game keeper , so I got involved in beating at several farms , from there I was allowed to do some rough shooting , vermin control etc . But then I moved changed jobs , sadly my friend died of cancer at 56 , and I lost contact with all the shoots I had . Then I drifted in and out of various shooting sports , the last few years I have been doing a lot of target shooting , now I want to get back into some pigeon / vermin shooting , and like a lot of others Iam not finding it easy . Iam going to join the BASC , I would like to find some land to shoot over , I live in Chelmsford Essex . so if any one can help it would be appreciated . Also I would like to assist someone to gain and refresh my knowledge . I expect you may here this a lot but if you dont ask then no one knows . Thanks for reading this , and a happy new year to you all . Dave
jerico
Hi Dave, Pete's airgun farm is not far from you http://www.airgunfarm.co.uk/, its on the A414 heading towards Harlow. Its £20 for the first visit and then £10 a day thereafter, you get the use of a 55 yard indoor range, an outdoor range and 500 acres of farmland. For range use only after 1730 its £5. For those of us without permission its a godsend.

Paul in North Lincs.
I have tended to find that when one door opens, several more will open in quick succession. I cleared off the spain for 3 years and when I returned I found that the shooting that I had ammassed had been allocated to someone else. Names dropping has been most productive for me, and now we have over 4,000 acres all in all to shoot over locally, soley under the guise of vermin control.. Is seems hard to get get a good name...but very easy to have one clouded... I am a commercial property surveyor by trade so I have asked for permission whilst out and about in a shirt and tie..........................as old fasioned as it sounds, good manners and smart apprearance and the occasional bottle of wine or whisky still goes along way, especially when dealing with landowners of the older generations

starlight32
I think the NPPC club you lads have up in the North of england is an excellent way of finding shooting permission. I know there is a fee of £150.00 but is that a lot of money these days to be able to shoot a load of land whenever you want. I don't think so- do you? I tell you what -if a club like that ever started up down here in East Anglia it would be inundated with people wanting to join. I have one policy for people wanting pigeon shooting, make yourself available during the week! Most pigeon shooters are weekenders. You will find adifferent approach from landowners I assure you if you can do this. I know this is difficult as we all have to earn a living but sometimes if you really want to gain permission sacrafices have to be made. Secondly, you will always find new permissions hard to come by during game season. Most land either rented to a syndicate or a private shoot do-not want pigeon shooters about when season is in. I am quite fortunate that on all my permissions crop damage from pigeons come higher on the list than concern over disturbance of game birds or the wanten prevention of vermin control by awkward shoot captains. ALWAYS REMEMBER THE GOLDEN RULE- ONCE YOU ARE IN YOU ARE IN BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!
