harrycatcat1
I know this has been muted on other forums but I thought I would ask if anyone would be provisionaly interested in taking part (for a laugh more than anything) in a duck calling competition. The location would be near to Kirton marsh in Lincolnshire. The cost would be a couple of quid or so to enter. It would be held in August. The prize is yet to be decided. Try and raise money for a local charity. I suppose this would be more of an interest for wash wildfowlers but it would be open to anyone. You would not be signing your life away just really to see if we could get together and do it. I will enter but I am really rubbish at blowing a duck call but feel free to laugh at me So what do you think? edited to say there will be a clay shoot as well (thank goodness it might drown my calling) and also food may be available. Regards Hcc We might even attract some folks from Oxford Edited May 8, 2013 by harrycatcat1
Yoggy
I`d be interested Harry. Sounds a good idea and for a good cause. Our American friends are really into calling comps.... the prize money is staggering!!
TJ91
You have my attention. I am not very good at calling but give it a go now and then I could bring along my friend who is very very good (so he tells everyone)..then you really will laugh! Keep us updated and i wil get practising. Edited May 8, 2013 by TJ91
Terry P
I would not enter but would come over and have a drink and chat all things wildfowling and perhaps have a couple of lessons from the more skilled lads, perhaps camp over night somewhere. harrycatcat1
Just to clarify for the shy ones there will be no television cameras or anything like that you will be given a number along with others behind a screen so no one will know who has blown what so there can be no discrimination. It will be part of South Lincolnshire Wildfowling Club's clay shoot and new members day. I will even chuck in a bacon cob with your entry fee, come on I only need a few more to make ten competitors and then it will be a goer. You will have the satisfaction of raising some money for charity as well. There will also be a prize that I will buy for the best loser called the "Ping Pong" trohpy. As Terry P has said it would be good just to get together and have a laugh, what have you got to lose? Regards Hcc edited to say it should be held on 10th August. harrycatcat1
How does the competition actually work? Im interested by the way. 1/ Well you pay your small fee to enter(it will be less than a fiver, remember the money will go to charity, 2/ you will be given a raffle ticket number you go behind a screen with 4 others, probably a sheet between two props so no one knows who is blowing, 3/ when your number is called you blow and 3 judges will mark out of 10. 4/ The winner will be the one with the most points, if there is a draw we will have a "blow off" 5/ This year it will be any duck call you like mallard or wigeon ect which ever is the best for you. 6/ The goose comp will be the same pink or canada whatever you are best at (or in my case not good at all at.) Its really just a get together put some faces to names and have a laugh thats all nothing serious. Anyway the duck comp will be on, we need more volunteers for the goose comp please. 10th August and the time would be mid day ish to be confirmed. Any more questions fire away. Yoggy
When you say "Duck calling" Harry do you specifically mean "Mallard". As this is the main type of call used in Comps or is it "open" to any species of duck on the quarry list?.
