NickB65
Hmmm your wheat must be a little more advanced than mine as mine is still very green and no pigeons are even slightly interested..... NOW Barley.... that is defo on the list but David did not plan any this year so I can only watch...... :-(

Bleeh
So with standing wheat do you guys just hide and wait for them to come in where they are feeding, or do you put decoys on the crops/squashed bits?
Harnser
I dont think you would be shooting pigeons on wheat this early in the season . I think you mean Barley . Harnser . So with standing wheat do you guys just hide and wait for them to come in where they are feeding, or do you put decoys on the crops/squashed bits? Decoys out on any laid patches . Harnser . VINCED 686
I've seen the first dropping into wheat today but its still looking a bit green. I'm on the barley tomorrow. I had a look at a field tonight and they were flowing in at a steady pace.
Jonboy14
I can assure you that it is wheat not "BARLEY" i happen to know my crops and yes you can see the browner pactches where it is further ahead, this is where the pigeons are dropping in. What has also helped is the fact it has been sprayed and the sprayer has flattered a fair bit which is a hotspot for them. I am also in Essex I have never seen so many pigeons on wheat before hundreds moving around the field again today got a few guns at the weekend so we can scatter across the field
Dannyboy220
Sweeeeeeeeeeeet. I got 300 acres of wheat. Ones not ready yet only a foot tall but its a sign of things to come for me!
Jonboy14
Keep your eye on it it was weird we was shooting on rape then all of sudden it was like where the **** have all the pigeons gone , then driving home hundreds of them all on wheat fields
yickdaz
the winter barley and wheat is starting to get a tinge to it around here, should start seeing them on it by the weekend, the spring barley and wheat is way behind not surprising mind you

Mr pigeon
I'm in Hampshire and there was a good 200 on the wheat today. In the tram lines etc, all readying themselves for me ;-) nothing on my barley yet though.
Actionpigeons
My wheat is still a little green, but I did see one or two dropping into it so hopefully it a week or so they should be on it proper. Had a goodish day last Friday over spring Rape with a lot of birds dropping on the edges. Went out Sunday and it was very slow and also been out today and it was even slower. I am going to wait until this silly weather brakes as its too hot for the dogs and me. Edited July 9, 2013 by Actionpigeons

TIGHTCHOKE
I expect within the next week or so to see the combines out cutting barley. Yes indeed, after having a drive round a couple of farms this morning I should think some will be ready in one or two weeks!
