activeviii
This is going to make it intresting, as if its not hard enough to get my bullets as it is. Hornady Suspends Production of 150 Ammo Types and 150 Bullet Types for Balance of 2013 In order to increase deliveries of its most popular types of ammunition and bullets, Hornady announced that it will temporarily suspend production of 150 bullet types and 150 ammo types. IMPORTANT: These bullet and ammo products are NOT being discontinued. Rather, these less-popular, suspended items will simply not be produced for the remainder of 2013. By doing this, Hornady can reduce tool/machinery changes and thereby increase production of products in highest demand. On July 2nd, Hornady issued this statement: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/
Lord Geordie
How cheesy, issuing a BULLET- in With any luch they will have a good stock of the lines they have suspended!
B B
Lets hope others dont folow suit, On a personal note this wont effect me as i only use. 224 50 grain V max by Hornaday and then only because i cant get sieras as easily much of the time. This USA panic buying run is a pottential problem though it must be said.
wymberley
Well, thanks a bunch, Hornady! They've hammered the 22 Hornet shooters. Many use the 35gn V Max which is listed as are the two that I use; the 50gn SPSX and the 45gn Hornet. However, as the problem is (hopefully) temporary this is the only possible economic solution. al4x
thats because its nearly obsolete wymberley seriously though there are some very good bullets that won't be appearing for a while, the 6mm 75 vmax is one of the best foxing rounds out there so good job I have enough for this year and mostly have moved to the 58grn. These yanks need a smack about the head and told to see sense over panic buying but I guess on the upside this will actually increase production of their most popular bullets so goes some way to help the issue
casts_by_fly
It isn't the Yanks panic buying as much as it is the demand from government contracts. Homeland security had an order for billions of rounds. I think the Army had a similar order at the same time. That's what has caused shortages in bullets and components. The american 'panic' buying has been because such a small amount of material gets to the retail level that the demand far eclipses it. I agree that this is a sound business move. Every time you change production tools, you have downtime during changeover. If you make longer runs of 1 item you get better efficiency. It is production 101. I can't see the list as I'm behind a firewall, but I'm going to take a wild guess that the bullets being held are a bit more specialized items which have a more common item 'replacement' still available with some compromise or they are bullets which you can actuall still get in stock at places. Yeah it is annoying if you're shooting a 35 g vmax, but think how many more guys are shooting 50 g vmax in loaded ammo (a lot more than are reloading with 35 gr). thanks rick
Dekers
They have followed the simple democratic approach of making more of what most people want. I have been to the hornady factory and seen just how fast and how many hours a day those machines run. If you want to moan, chastise your own component choice, you are statistically outside the envelope? In principle I agree, the popular bullets are generally popular for a good reason. Unfortunately, some shooters do actually have specialist, narrow requirements, and this may cause a handful of people some inconvenience. For the vast majority though, I suspect it will just prove an opportunity to try something slightly more mainstream.
deputy dog
I use the 75 grain VMax in .243 flavour and gutted that its on the suspension list. At £25 a box they weren't a bank busting round to buy for a factory load. Looks like i'l have to start doing some home loads, once iv found an alternative round that my rifle like. Bit of a ****** as i couldn't be a*sed in a way to sit down an make rounds if you could buy them cheap enough. But it does look like i got to reform myself in near future. DD The 87 or 58 seem to still be in production, the 58's are an awesome bullet while the 87's seem to work well and be of a tough enough construction that they seem fine on deer. I've enough for about a year but if I will try and top up if I happen to see any 600 of each calibre now in the cabinet plus a few extra of the a-max. that will last a few months. just as well in not using for the 7x57 as i have none for them. deputy dog
Going to give the 58 grain V max a whirl and just hope my gun like them. Hope fully get a few factory loaded ones first to try. Then if my rifle gets on with them, then i'l have a bash at reloading them, so i got my fingers crossed on this one. DD

DD lets say with a 200 yard zero mine give 3" of drop at 300 yards and are an inch and a half high at 100 yards. Makes them pretty good for lamping our rather large fields
