junctiontwo
Went out on the first 'proper' look at SG's today after getting the certs last week. My wife & I are both looking to buy with a total spend of around £3000, however it seems that no store is willing to move on price for cash. I'm a sales rep so know that uniform selling prices are 'requested' by manufacturers, and now wonder if this applies to SG's? Has anybody been successful in getting a cash reduction or should I just accept that these items are subject to an element of 'price fixing'? oscarsdad
Buy used. Stick with the top end makes, browning, beretta, miroku etc and someone else will have paid the vat and the depreciation.
sitsinhedges
Go on guntrader find the cheapest of the model you want then get your local shop to roughly match it. If they get it straight from the distributor it's money straight in their pockets without it sitting on the shelf for months so worth a deal for that. HDAV
Depends on what you are looking at, deals are out there, but manufacturers aren't giving away discount! But there are incentives
OvEr_KiLL
you will most likely get discount on a used shotgun but on a new one, no but ask them to to throw in a cleaning kit and oils etc. or a gun slip
Will Poon
There is definitely movement for prices on a shotgun new or used , my experience is the used ones you can get a better deal with especially if your going to buy other equipment off the shop like a shooting vest , cartridges gun slip.....etc , but don't take the urine out the bloke and offer him hundreds less off the sticker price EDIT, Mind you I did get a straight NO when I asked one or two gun shops for cash discount when I first started out over a year ago, they don't get my business from then on Edited August 3, 2013 by Willpoon
kiffy
only bought one new shotgun but i went into the store knowing what i wamted to pay as id seen them online for the same price, and they matched it...cant fault them as id have had to travel miles to collect or pay an rfd transfer
bostonmick
I think you will find that there is very little profit in a new gun for your local dealer they make a lot more on used.the used gun in their ship for around fifteen hundred would have around five hundred profit for them where the new one may only have around a hundred.the last trade in I did I got seven hundred for and it sold on for just under eleven hundred so as was said earlier go for used a better quality at a much nicer price. Vince Green
They always claim to make very little on new guns, Buying secondhand, espescially privately can be a way to bargains. A lot of people quite desperate for cash at the moment. Dealers offer you peanuts if you go in trying to sell.
sitsinhedges
I saw the receipt for my new gun that came with it. The shop made about £100 + VAT on a £700 gun straight from the distributors courier and in to my hands. Seems fair enough. Some shops are selling it for £800+
junctiontwo
The purchase of 2 SG's today with a total spend of £3300 gave 'freebies' of a Browning vest @ £69 and a can of cleaner @ £11.50. I wasn't overly impressed TBH as the actual total cost to the RFD is probably around £20-25 which represents a pretty poor % off. That said, the service was good and the replies above seem to indicate that they make a small mark up on new guns. I'm now after a cheapie S/H semi for a 'use & abuse' and will certainly push harder then......
norfolk dumpling
I think you must also establish a bit of a relationship with the RFD - if early days as a shooter say so and ask for help. Seen this with new shooters and help with choice/fitting really good. They want you to come back for shells, clothing, guns etc etc
welshwarrior
Most people don't relealise the RFD makes more money on a cheap SMK air rifle that a brand new Beretta Silver Pigeon.
WGD
If you search guntrader for a new gun, the cheapest price on there will be making next to nothing on the gun. Some retailers will pitch higher to be able to offer a discount, but the cheapest priced new guns have nowhere to go.
Breastman
Look for gun shops that do price matching (especially internet), i got £250 off the shop price, 500 carts and a gun slip for 10minutes internet searching and a slightly longer drive to the RFD's that did the price matching

xxx.Morph.xxx
I know the RFD's have to make a profit but when the guns are all coming from one supplier/importer some of them do take the p!ss For example at the lower end of the market, a New Winchester SXP on Guntrader from £329 to £399 with many prices inbetween & one fantasist asking £495  Why does one dealer think he warrants £70 more if the one selling at £329 is happy with his profit margin ? (I'm ignoring the £495 nut job)
WGD
Look for a Beretta Silver Pigeon I Deluxe Field on Gun Trader. New they range from £1675 to £2050...
RossEM
Edgar Brothers trade price for Hatsan Escorts is £130 (I know this as a friend of a friend works for them.) In shops they retail at around £400. That's a huge mark up.
bostonmick
a beretta 687 eell is priced at just over six thousand new yet my local dealer will bring it to you at well under five thousand.i have seen the paperwork for the two that I bought new and his total profit was just under 400 for the pair.as for the hatsan being 130 to the dealer there must be at least 100 components in a semi auto so with transport and labour costs are we to believe that all the parts of these guns cost less than a pound each.if so yet another reason to avoid them
slimshooter
Just to ad my 10 pence worth. It depends on what make you buy, GMK distribute to all there suppliers at the same price, they suggest a price to sell at, it is then up to the dealer what they sell them for, so all dealers are equal. Now if you by a browning they are sold to deals at different prices depending on how much they sell/deal, it can leave some dealers being able to buy from another dealer cheaper then what they can from the distributor. Caesar Guerini are trying to fix there prices at an RRP speak to a dealer and they don't want to seem to discount! Can only go on what I have been told, be interesting to no what other distributers do. Edited August 6, 2013 by slimshooter
HDAV
I can imagine Edgar's buying hatsan a at around £130 probably buying container loads for that unit price then paying the proof fees etc selling to dealers on £220-250 ish depending £400 retail is £320 nett giving dealer £100 ish to play with
