Axeman1984
I have a nice little lump of ash wood which I've had years, I drilled a hole through one end and just clip it on my belt, just calmly pick up any winged birds and give em a sharp thonk! Over the head, quick, instant, pain less...

thenetter
Scaffold tube !! A little OTT me thinks. Guys, if you're unsure how to do a vital part of what we do, then invite an experienced person along one day to show you how. I don't want to sound bad but I've taken people out shooting and even when I know they are competent enough in all other aspects, I will not let them shoot alone unless they can dispatch a bird swiftly and humanely. This really is a very important part of what we do and should be taken seriously. The OP had done the right thing to ask when he isn't sure, but some of the replies are mind boggling. +
12boreblue
A good priest is for me the best result, I have a length of antler filled with lead.
NickB65
I have a lovely piece of deer antler which does the trick as I always end up with the head in one hand and the body in the other. The whirly apporach also works but I find it better on the larger birds like pheasant. Breaking the spine does not kiil the bird quickly.... may appear too but it doesn't. Breaking the neck or causing massive trauma to the head is far quicker and humane.
