Alanl50
I was told this today by my RFD I thought he was joking when he said Remington have bought 95% stake in Sports Marketing (SMK) and he said he will no longer stock Remington guns or sell there ammunition he said its all up in the air as no dealer knows whats happening. SMK- Not bad for a local man who started out importing cheap Russian guns and cartridges.
Teal
This was the press release from 10 days ago: Press release - September 2013 Edgar Brothers and Remington part ways after 13 years Following Remington’s purchase of distributor Sportsmarketing SMK in March, the American brand has decided to part ways with Edgar Brothers after a 13-year partnership. Despite the relationship lasting through some of the most testing times in economic history, recently Remington struggled with Edgar Brothers’ strategy in relation to brands and product categories and felt there may be too much competition within the portfolio. Edgar Brothers’ Managing Director, Derek Edgar explained: “We have a number of brands where lines may appear to compete in the same category but the reality is they do not. Remington wanted complete exclusivity, which does not meet with our strategic direction as a distributor. Our strategy is to be a single source solution for retailers and deliver good, better and best options within product categories priced accordingly. All of our other manufacturers and suppliers understand this concept and see it as a strength not a threat helping to drive their brands and our business forward to mutual gain.”

Dekers
Yep...SMK, I have to admit I missed that but got some inside information a few days back. I should be at the Tackle and Gun show next month so I'll be having a word with my pals on the SMK stand, who I suspect will be in buoyant mood. All credit to them, and frankly I never saw that coming, so full marks and well done! But who knows, will SMK (Sportsmarketing) become a name of the past, will it all be Remington UK soon? kent
Lets face it they were not flying off the shelves at current prices. The Remmington 700 was once a well priced gun in the UK. I do believe this sort of thing is the future, its already swept through other trades. Remove the distributors in general I say, they offer little to no service for their cut

It's just that more money will be made by the company which makes Remingtons. J.
CZ550Kevlar
anything on the shelf is going to stay the same price, anything new coming in will stay at the same price, I can't see 20 - 50% discounts being passed on.
HDAV
The discount will only be on stock Edgar's dump and normally they will send it back for credit and it'll mostly be any demo not brand new stock they hold that cant be returned. let's face it the big distributors promote the brands that make them money hatsan are a big money spinner for Edgar's and have really taken hold in the UK market Remington shotguns are no where near the top sales wise and I think Remington know this they are effectively taking it in house and if you look at SMK dealers many are not big RFD's many probably happy to sell just a range of cheap none FAC air but some maybe convinced to upgrade to full RFD's could be interesting but the bargains will be few and far between! timmy1146
There goes my warranty of the versa max I just bought then!
figgy
Your warranty should be fine its with Remington not Edgar Bros. The Versamax should be competing with the Winchester SX3 and Brownings Maxus, Benelli are not much more than a Browning in price. Remington have gone for Beretta in price so no wonder there not selling many. The cheaper semis is where the sales are, hopefully they will sell them at a realistic price now.
