Bye bye Landrover Defender

I understand that the factory will be relocated to Asia where production will continue. Unfortunately we'll not be able to import its product into Europe.

Have to agree about the electrics and sophistication, the whole point of older LR's is that you can mend them in the field with baler twine, a hammer and, if especially difficult, a straightened out coat hanger.

The new concept one looks good, but can't see farmers buying it.

Shooting themselves in the foot as most I know will now get Toyota Hilux.

The new one won't still look good with scratches and dents, the old one did.

Think the replacement will be as unreliable as the rest of the range.

Emissions is the reason, just put a better emission engine in the current model.

Actually, Pinzgauer 710K is the same length and width as a Defender 90. Slightly taller and parts more expensive but in fairness, it is built to a much higher specification (think they were over £100K new). Mine cost £3,000 :)

The underbody and corrosion protection on Defenders has never really been improved, panel fit is dreadful, nowhere for your right elbow and very little ground clearance on the 110's. There is good reason why people buy Japanese pickups instead. I had high hopes when Tata bought Land Rover that they'd make a solid utility vehicle but instead they've tried to push Defender poshwards and it was never designed for that to begin with

Plenty of new defenders on the farms around here.

Farmers can afford them and they are in use every day.

Yes but that is just part of being a farmer you have to have a big tractor and a land rover or people will not think that you are a proper farmer if you had a jap 4x4 pickup people would think that you was a gamekeeper or builder if you have a Landcruiser or Rangerover you are a pretend farmer with a well paid job in the city.

It's way overdue and only lasted as long as it did due to mod orders the 50's engineering can't cut it and LR is now a luxury car maker not a commercial/utility maker there have been far better vehicles in every aspect for 20 years...... Would still love one tho!

Maybe the case but still a slap in the laughing tackle for British industry

How many of the competition will still be going strong when they're 50+?

This spring chicken is only 45.

Yes but it is like Trigger's work brush on fools and horses he has had the same brush for 20 years it has had six new heads and fifteen new handles boom boom :good:

That is a nice looking truck but you have to spend time looking after it to make it last that long

Hardly the output of LR is booming and not to the UK but to export markets! Making the same thing with little development for 50 years is what ruined our car industry.....
