red_stag88
Hey there red_stag88, nice to see you posting again. Are we still banned on the School's PC's, or have you broken the code ? B) I fished Patshulls Park lake for a month, back in the early 70's (by private invitation) and caught some large carp (up to 25lb). There are certainly large pike in the lake, we caught fish up to 20lb and that was before any trout were put in there. Hey Cranners, No, I left school last July. I was going to do zoology at uni but I didn't do so well in my exams so I'm off to harper to do agri with animal or crop science (not decided yet). I took a gap year, and started driving tractors the day after my leaving party (that was a hard day at work ) I took a week of holiday in october to prepare and left for New Zealand on the 8th. I've been here farming dairy cows, and trying to kill some deer ever since. It's bloody hard stalking in the bush here, so I'm heading off up north to shoot some wallabies with a mate in a few weeks. I'll get posting more often now, I'd forgotten about the site. I've missed it and its good to be back. Grown a bit though!

red_stag88
Well it's nice to see so many welcome notes :look: The stalking here is tough going in the bush. My local bit is 6000 acers of seriously dense trees, following deer tracks with the longest shot being about 25yrds. Hill stalking is good though - I might go off to the mountains this weekend comming to shoot songe chamouis and what not. I'll post a few pics if i do. LB, life is hard out here on that front :yp:
new to the flock
Red you are hunting deer in the same type of stuff I do. Do your deer trails empty out onto fields or medows? What is the make up of the woods? How big is your typical wood? NTTF
farmers son
you still going to harper? i'v applied for harper next year doing agri-business and been offered a place, but i think i'm off to aberysyth (can't spell it i know) to do the same course. i certainly envy you taking a gap year out in new zealand, i considered a gap year but i was too scared i wouldn't want to go back to education. but i bet it's brilliant
red_stag88
Red you are hunting deer in the same type of stuff I do. Do your deer trails empty out onto fields or medows? What is the make up of the woods? How big is your typical wood? NTTF Yeah, I'm following deer trails though some of the densest stuff I've ever seen. I occasionally come across the odd small bit of grass by a stream, or tussock grass but most of it is tring to find deer with a longest shot being 20yrds. The woods are "native bush" I'll post a picture for you. It's beech, silver ferns, spainsh moss and alsorts. There are "exotic planataions" which tend to be pine, but they are grown for wood and the forstry guys working there get to hunt the deer and boar as a perk of the job. The woods vary really. The whole of the fiordland is one big wood really, check it out on an atlas is the bottom left of NZ. As I am in the south the woods tend to be smaller (apart form fiordland) and there is a lot more hill stalking. I certainly miss the open rides and manacured woods of home. you still going to harper? i'v applied for harper next year doing agri-business and been offered a place, but i think i'm off to aberysyth (can't spell it i know) to do the same course.i certainly envy you taking a gap year out in new zealand, i considered a gap year but i was too scared i wouldn't want to go back to education. but i bet it's brilliant :yp: Yeah I'm, off to harper bud. doping ag with either animal sci or crop sci - I'm not decided yet. I really dont want to go back to uni or home!
