fenboy
Does anyone know a company that will export aftermarket chokes from the USA to the UK ? I am after one or two for my Versamax but cannot find any over here and so far everyone I have tried in the US will not post them.
HDAV
What chokes do you want? Have you tried teague (the actual factory), just choking? Brownells, midway uk?
fenboy
Teague do not list any remington pro bore chokes , only the rem choke which do not fit the versamax , Midway sell a set of three but at silly money , not tried Brownells so will have a look now thanks. motty
Had a look but they do not have any that fit the versamax I just checked the site and found Rem pro bore.
fenboy
I just checked the site and found Rem pro bore. Sorry I missed those , but they only have Briley and not enough information about them for me to make a informed decision.
motty
Sorry I missed those , but they only have Briley and not enough information about them for me to make a informed decision. I'm certainly no expert, but going from what I've seen other fowlers use, if you're going for a choke to pattern steel well at distance, I think a light full ext Briley would be a good choice. Muncher from this forum was using full and extra full in his Browning.
fenboy
Funny as it was the light full I was looking at , does not mention shot sizes etc ,some of the more constricted aftermarket chokes I have look at only recommend up to No 1 shot or smaller , but they may have been extra full
shakin stevens
I shoot light full ext briley chokes in my browning waterfowl, got two for just over £70 from potters of Kent, I put plenty of BB ammo through the chokes with no bother. shakin stevens
Just plain ones , to be fair I shoot with ukfowler off the forum down on sheps when I get down, and he runs the same set up in his browning waterfowl, so I got a set and pattern tested them with gamebore mamoths bbs and Remington nitro steel bbs all in 3 1/2 inch, and found they patterned well, Motty has mentioned the same set up as well. I have already ordered it from the web site above 37 euro , its a job to get get them from the uk in the probore format , fine if you have a Beretta or Browning but dont think there are enough Versamax's about to make it worth while and the older remingtons use a different choke. GlenM
Mandel Chokes could be another option. I haven't taken them up on it yet but they have offered to make me some chokes for an obscure Italian o/u.
Cosmicblue
I have successfully imported chokes from these guys in Texas http://www.performanceshootinghq.com/ Despite gun components falling into the scope of the very strict US ITAR (International Trade Arms Regulations) that have eye watering fines and lengthy prison sentences attached these chaps seem quite happy to post chokes in a Jiffy bag with the customs paperwork marked as 'tubes'. Being Texan they almost certainly believe that the rules don't apply to them .
Jaymo
Brought many a choke from the states, also a couple of mags to boot. From both retailers and Ebay ITAR is a funny business for some and others are happy to ship almost anything aslong as it's under $100 Edited January 18, 2014 by Jaymo
