They spend a huge amount of money on it with various pointless stunts, it's of almost zero value in terms of getting to know about new cars coming on the market and Clarkson thinks he's funny slating everything but Ford and Ferrari.

The most stupid thing is the way they race every car they test round that track  ! What on earth does it matter how quickly a family car can be screeched round a corner ?

You could not devise a better way of entertaining three middle aged blokes, except maybe adding a few available, amorous ladies back at the 5 star hotels but who knows, they probably get that too.

Over 350 million viewers worldwide and screened to 130+ countries. The bbc's biggest show ever that generates millions per year and people complain about them waisting tax payers money. It's an entertainment show, if your not entertained then don't watch it. I love it, not as good as it used to be but still better than most of the **** on tv.

They're just killing it now. Occasionally (VERY occasionally), they do a great slot, but now you're lucky if that's 10 minutes per series. Strangely, my favourite bits always seem to be when May and Clarkson ditch that fool Hammond and do proper car stuff, like cars of the Cold war, or the search for the first mass produced car with the pedal and key layout we have today. And when they used to do stuff about real cars. Gone are the days when, to give three family cars a thorough test, they'd take them late night minicabbing, to give them some real day-to-day punishment. now it's all supercars and brainless explosions. it's frustrating. Clarkson proved with his Arctic Convoys programme he can still do quality stuff, and James May's manlab & Toy Stories are fantastic. Top Gear though has just become banal

Top gear is superb.

The fact its the biggest export and monet generator the BBC have speaks volumes. Shown in nearly every country in the world. And Dave pretty much survives on repeats.

People that slate it for bring childish bla bla bla. Need to realise thats the whole point. Its daft its childish its set up its entertainment.

So dont like it?? Hit that remote button and its gone from your life.

Why do you want to watch 3 blokes review 'normal' cars, it'd be like watching paint dry,can you imagine replacing the track times with top mpg and Clarkson being proud that "this one got 41.6 mpg around our track driven by the Stigs anorak wearing cousin"

I want to know about the slightly exotics that I might be able to afford when they're 4 or 5 years old and in general just some blokes doing what we could if we had the chance - thrashing cars, stupid races and trips across country's that I'll probably never do. I travel 500 miles a week in my car and see thousands of mundane cars (all doing what they need to) I want to watch something a bit different to escape this

Wheeler Dealers is good, just don't believe the buying & selling prices

You can't argue it is entertaining so long as you leave your brains behind but the fact it is hugely successful commercially says more about the general gullibility and vacuous nature of our world than anything else. There is a genuine market for a car series with cars in it though, fronted by the equivalent of R4 presenters.

We all want to see exotic cars tested as well as cars we can afford but the present format is all a big joke from the start.

And they never say how much the labour cost would be,so they never ever make any money.

You don't make money fixing stuff up at all to be fair. You make it by buying as many for as cheap as you can and selling as fast as you can for the biggest amount of gross then hence net profit.

Yes Wheeler Dealers is nice enough but I agree leaving China's labour costs out are odd to say the least but you can see they are just doing it for fun as opposed to a viable business. What they don't do is restore a car and then blow it up.

what's PW view on Top Gear, I stopped watching it years ago cant stand Clarkson or his other two stooges,

If you stopped watching it years ago how do you know it's had its day, and why have you waited 'til now to post about it?

What's PW view on Emmerdale? I stopped watching it years ago, can't stand Molly Sugden or her two sons.

If you don't like it, don't watch it; It's not rocket science.

Could the green eyed monster play a part in some of the anti Top Gear comments? Three overgrown schoolboys jetting off all over the world to drive cars that most on here can only dream about, and getting bloody well paid for it! What's not to like?

I once asked my daughter why she liked watching the Kardashians so much, claiming it was carp. She said: 'if I wanted to watch a programme about average people leading average lives I needn't put on the TV as I'm already living it'. Fair comment.

Its Rubbish...

About time they grew up...

The programme is a complete and utter waste of money..

If they are to continue with it ought to put more emphasis on the average driver not those who can afford a 350 k Aston...

Wheeler dealers is 10 times better...

Don't beat about the bush, tell it as it is. ..... I agree complete Rubbish.

I think watching neither type of people living their lives out on telly is the third and preferred option ?! As for jealousy, hmmm dunno, I've followed F1 for thirty years and they are as overpaid as anyone on the planet but on the whole it's a good package. TopGear presenters lead no better lives than a number of actors or sports / pop stars, but manage to turn a potentially interesting subject into banal garbage.

Just to qualify my anti TG stance, I think a vast amount of stuff on TV is garbage.
