Have you? :whistling:

Funny - i've not seen any requests for the general public in a 25 mile radius to just pitch up at the Datchet parish offices offering their services. If such a request were forthcoming in my neighbourhood, I certainly would assist.

never answer a question with a question, it only makes an aris of you.

When my Ma's village was flooded out in 2007. Prince Charles turned up and waded in ordinary shoes to get into a dinghy and left the press stranded. He then boated around the community without the press and spoke to locals.

Two weeks later PM Brown and local MP Ed Miliband (representing an historic coal mining community - I ask you!), and the Borough Executive Mayor turned up for a photo op. Brown came in by helicopter, stayed a few minutes, made a load of promises and then left for Hull. leaving Miliband and the Mayor to sup tea in a Council caravan outside Ma's house.

I gave Miliband a letter for Brown with ten demands from the village residents. He later saw me speaking to the local radio. He came over after wards and said, "I see you are still peddling your charter". None of the demands were ever met. The funding for flood protection from 1948 has never been forthcoming neither!

I said to Miliband, you know, these rescue services bods on triple over-time and all expenses paid will be at No. 10 within the year getting medals for bravery and public spiritedness, and yet it was the local lads who swept up all the infirm and aged residents overlooked by the professionals, and they will get no recognition.

As for plod? Well they couldn't help as they hadn't got the right waders.

Within the year there was a dinner and awards at No. 10 in honour of the rescue services bods who had been on triple over-time and all expenses paid. The local lads got nothing, other than a mention in a letter to me by PM Brown.

Even the general public muck in and get on with it when the forces won't and they're not getting paid for it. I will never forget a fireman on Clapham common refusing to wade out to help a kid in a dinghy that had got wedged under a tree branch overhanging the water, as he didn't have the correct equipment. A bloke who came over just walked in and waded out to release it. The water was no more than 3 feet deep. I was 12 but never forgot it or the reaction of the people who witnessed it.

Read they spent 10 hours shifting sandbags and Harry seemed genuinely ****** off with the press asking stupid questions so I suspect not contrived. They are both forces personnel and even though this may have been on their doorstep good on them. Good example to all of us. Hear their grand mum has pitched in with real support too.
