Crows Before Lambing

Recommended Posts

As the title suggests I had a call today to go out and try to reduce the Crows and Magpies on a local farm before the lambing starts on Sunday. I watched the field before setting up and the crows were all flying over an old maize field and well away from the lambing sheds. I decided to set up under an Oak tree in the middle of the field, I had only brought two crows with me and put them out on spikes and started to call , straight away I had a crow calling back and he came to look and paid the price. The wind was cool at times and I had built the hide round the tree so I could get out of the wind and vision as I had extended the hide poles to a good distance above my height. The Crows kept comming in one's and two's straight into the wind past my hide. I heard a magpie behind me in the farm buildings and managed to call it with the crow call and put him upwind to the hide with a dead crow at its feet , the crow decoys I always put downwind of the hide so they are looking at the pattern not the hide as they come in. I managed to call six Magpies during the day . The two pigeons came late in the day as they were going to roost and both of them were rammed with acorns . I could hear a shooter on the rape all day long . The farmer came over as I was packing up and was well pleased with my result just as I was.
