I may be able to help, the only way I can describe a hill to fen person is to lie face down in a field and open your eyes what you are seeing is like a hill for someone who is standing up in a hilly place but closer, simple,

didn't catch the programe but will record next cheers

Seen that happen on my mates farm when I was younger. Townies do not believe crows do that....

Eyes and/ or tongues, some times with a sheep that has become stranded on it's back they will peck a hole in the stomach, then pull intestines out in bits, surprising how long a sheep lives with its guts splashed around and eyes missing.

I wish more farmers would record such things with a photo or two so we wouldn't have silly suggestions like scaring off the birds before shooting them!

watched it last night, was the lamb he found buried in snow and i'm sure he said crows had pecked its eyes still alive? if so i am surprised he did not put it down, of course it could have been done off camera. just wondered.

happens all the time, if a ewe goes on it's back, it may have a full fleece or lambing any reason, we have hoodie crows, ravens, and great black back gulls all queuing up for blood, I finish em off with a 4-10 (the ewe)

I just watched this on iPlayer. Thanks for posting Paul223.

It took me right back to my formative years farming sheep with family in the Mourne mountains in co. Down. It all rings so true, but while the damage done by greybacks was briefly mentioned, there was no mention of the devastation caused by foxes on new lambs and ewes who get caught on their backs. I hated having to collect the dead newborns with a hole in their chest cavity just the size of a fox's muzzle. There's no meat on a newborn and just just ate the contents of the chest cavity.

It's a great programme and I'll be watching more on iPlayer, but already I sense a watering down for the tv audience.

Walking back (I say walking, I mean staggering) back to the car with all the decoying kit last weekend, I noticed a dead sheep on its back in the next field. On my second trip it waggled its legs, so I climbed over and found a massively pregnant ewe, going nowhere, totally exhausted. Got it rolled over, and had to physically haul it back onto it's feet, to wobble off to the flock..... And of all the times you WANT to get caught on someone else's land, there was no one about... Next time I hop over to pick up a winged bird I'll probably get sued. :/

Insult? Townfile I take it, country file is most defiantly edited with non country people in mind, very often referred to as townies, I'd consider it to be a frame of mind rather than where you live!

It's only the first of a four part series but so far I think the hill farm is knocking spots off countryfile, showing it up for what it really is!
