oneshot1979
Not saying it's my favourite but I recently watched BENEATH HILL 66, an Australian film based on the true story of the Aussie miners tasked with stopping the mines that the English dug under the Messines ridge from flooding. Only made in the last few years and not a big release but very very good.

Saving private Ryan,as has been said that opening sequence is very very powerful. And i must watch Idi I Smotri ,i have just looked at the trailer that Beardo put up,and it looks a very powerful film.
chrisjpainter
It's funny how few of these are even close to modern! Sink the Bismarck is another quality film. No one's said Pearl Harbor yet! I wonder why...

chrisjpainter
Idi I Smotri (Come and See) is amazing, it's a Russian film set on the Eastern front in Belarus. well worth tracking down I also love Cross of Iron Looks good. I believe Ray Mears has an interest in the lives of the resistance fighters in Belarus. I seem to remember him doing an episode on it in one of his survival series? Fisherman Mike
I tell you, gentlemen, we have a problem on our hands. Thanks to the Japanese, we now command a rabble. There's no order, no discipline. Our task is to rebuild the battalion. It isn't going to be easy, but fortunately, we have the means at hand, the bridge...We can teach these barbarians a lesson in Western methods and efficiency that will put them to shame. We'll show them what the British soldier is capable of doing...It's going to be a proper bridge. Now here again, I know the men. It's essential that they should take a pride in their job
