steve_b_wales
I watched the above program last night, and almost threw my TV through the window! It beggars belief on what these people can legally claim.

huntsman
It was an eye opener to say the least I have just been looking at how much Tax & NI Contributions I pay etc it makes me sick to think these people can walk into this country and grab and take cos they can the government policies need to change NOW. For a small island we work damn hard to be were we are,and It will all be gone in a number of years I do not like the policies or principles imposed on us But what can you do 1 walk away go somewhere else ?? 2 keep on living or try to live what are our options
aris
what are our options 1) Change the benefits system - this would affect everyone equally (even UK citizens). 2) Leave the EU. It is EU law which allows foreign EU citizens the same rights as UK citizens in Britain.
lexikia
Makes you puke, what I don't understand is why i pay thousands in NI and 40% tax on anything over £32000 but my self employed bro in law only pays a pittance in NI and 20% tax no matter what he earns. He says he doesn't get sick benefit etc but I don't if i'm working. Don't have many days off sick
Dekers
The program was obviously designed to show what a soft touch our system is...it worked, I just don't understand why we pay in these circumstances.

Frenchieboy
it certainly didnt paint them in a good light Especially the lazy plank who is allowed to claim for his son who isn't even in this country. The only way to stop this is to leave the EU and throw out all of the foriegn scroungers who only come to Britain for our benefit system, which some of them are openly admitting to! I find words hard to describe my thoughts on this without me getting banned from the forum, especially when we have British/English pensioners who have worked hard and payed into the system all of their lives and are now being left to live on the poverty line and in some cases unable to even afford propper heating for their homes because of these lazy foriegn scroungers and spongers! shaun4860
The programme achieved what it set out to do, It's car crash TV, gets everyone ranting about it All these programmes are the same, Shows what a soft touch we are, I had to switch off Tony Blair is responcible as it was him and his wife who set it all in motion, The only way to stop it now would be to leave the EU, but that will NEVER happen so unfortunately we are stuck with it. It only needs a PM with balls, to say Oi, Noooo! We are NOT going to allow migrants the same benefits, unless they work 5 years and pay into the system! Any migrant who has nothing to offer will get turned around and sent back at the borders. Illegals show they have no intention of following rules so turf them back out too! If they have skills to fill a hole in our job market and find a job them fair enough! Comming to learn at Uni and paying their way, fair enough! Comming to sponge or get free treatment on the NHS? No flamin way!

OK then I will play devils advocate, just what is the difference, between an economic migrant, coming to this country to take advantage of our welfare system, and big big company set up to this country with the intent to exploit the generous financial job creation funds, then pay a min wage and have the taxpayer top up out their employees wage? and then go on to pay cherry bobs in corporation tax which loses us billions more in tax, than the overseas migrants claim in benefit? just saying like, and just remember one simple fact if anyone is on a low wage then they too are still a benefit recipient, something often not admitted / recognised. drnobsac
Nothing but scum.......I lived very close to peterborough town centre, and had done for 19 years, quite happy with some good neighbours. Unfortunately the doors opened and all hell broke loose!!.We had 3 houses to the left of us that were rented out to 1 big family who happened to be slovak gypsies. Everyday was a complete nightmare, they had absolutely not a care in the world, none of them worked but managed to have 4 brand new cars, and everyday was a party(i kid you not)music flat out, constant drink driving, and verbal abuse, sometimes physical should you confront 1 of them. This went on for 5 years until it became too dangerous. My daughter is 23 and could not walk along the street without some sort of sexual harrasment. Both the police and council done absolutely nothing, and we were basically forced out of our own home .Living out in the sticks now and absolutely love it,feels like a different planet

KW I was actually reffering to migrants who can offer skills that are in shortage in the UK such as Nurses, Doctors, Engineers! Not potato pickers as for Low wage earners, what would you prefer? Low wage earners or benefit claimants? Not all low wage earners can claim. I am not eligible for Working tax credit I am between the legal thresh hold of hours for working tax, and the cut off point for housing help! In short I am entitled to now't. Oh and I pay income tax too! I have had a spell on Benefit and I am not going to deny that! But bringing up a Child on my own with Health and Mental problems is not easy! And just to let you know! Even though he has Autism, heart disease, Sprengels deformity I claim NOTHING for him! We survived VERY well on Income support alone! I was able to run my home, afford a car, holidays as I don't smoke nor drink! I had the interviews with the DSS asking where I got the money for the car etc as someone decided to fess me up! I have no problem with that as I had nothing to hide! And I would actually advocate others to tell the system if they suspect fiddling! I was on benefit for around 7 year in total! But since leaving school at 16 I worked right through until Chris' mum left. I then continued to work as my Parents helped with child care while I worked split shifts as a bus driver, then eventually My Son asked why I didn't love him anymore? As I dropped him in at his grand parents every day and never saw him hardly. I did what ANY parent should do and spent more time with him. I am now in a Warehouse busting my balls working solo in a supermarket, unloading wagons, splitting pallets down, racking promo event lines, cleaning. I don't even get a seat in that place. Non stop on your feet and heavy work. I love my job! It pays my rent, my council tax, I pay Income tax and NI, and.come home aching every day! But what I come home with is MINE, I earned it and it feeds us and clothes us. I get one or two cheap hols a year in the UK. Camping or caravaning etc. I pay into the same system as others who work and watch as dossers live it up, while others have to work hard. Yes it works me up the wrong way! As it does with you obviously! But I would rather be working and living on the bread line, than going back on the dole! If I had to sweep streets I would gladly do it! Oh and can I point out! State pension is a Benefit also! infact statistically it is around half of the total benefits claimed per year! How many people have a dig at Pensioners on a state pension? As I say! There are GENUINE claimants who hit a rock bottom! lose a job and require help! That is what it was for before it became a lifestyle choice, Lets not tar ALL claimants as dossers, as they aren't. If I manage to work until retirement I will have spent 52 years earning a living and paying tax. I think that is better than the alternative! norfolk dumpling
Was this actually an advert for UKIP or a factual documentary? I have had some involvement with this issue (gang masters in the Fens) and don't doubt the validity of the message here but we also have as many of our own countrymen also taking the ****. Mick Phillpot (? The guy who murdered 6 kids as his £90k benefits were being reduced as one of his [many] partners was running off with a few offspring) springs to mind as an extreme example of the abuse we tax payers are funding. So perhaps a more balanced programme would have been better as this just increases racial tension.

LG I am not going to totally pick your reply to pieces, but hang on lets have think, you ask how many people have a dig at pensioners? well the answer is lots and lots actually especially the govt who repay a man who has worked all his life and contributed, with a pittance of a pension, yet they reward someone who has screwed the country totally, blair, brown, soon camemoron and just about every banker going, with a lifestyle of hector riva,so lets not say pensioners are on "benefit" please. Then you try to identify "GENUINE" claimants well sorry mate they are all genuine if they play the rules, then that's the game, just as you and I would / do, so that's not the immigrant or indigenous claimants fault is it,to receive benefit you have to meet the criteria do you not? so lets not blame them, lets blame the right people IE those who gave and still want to give any sovereign rights this country once had away, that's the fluffy left and the modern ever so diverse idealist lunatics P.S seeing as you dont drink or smoke, you will have to stop posting on all those cracking real ale deals you find and the nice little watering holes you pop into, oh and you also posted you earn 10k a year, whats the tax threshold KW Edited April 12, 2014 by kdubya
