Dilemma

Recommended Posts

As a responsible firearms and shotgun certificate holder I am in a bit of a dilemma as what to do about this ;-

My neighbour regularly leaves his shotgun and .243 rifle in his vehicle overnight even when he goes away for the evening and returns the following morning he makes no effort to conceal the firearms one on the front seat and the rifle laid across the back seat are in full view its a quiet area the nearest house being 500 yds away and the village about 1 mile away

What should I do ?

Just suppose someone stole them and used them in your neighbourhood or locality. Have a word, if he is a friend but do it only once and then report him. You can do this anonymously and it is for the best for all of us. Its simply, as said, dangerously irresponsible.

if you report him to the old bill he'll know it's you, that might lead to you getting a slap. maybe have a quiet word in his shell like but don't drop the dime on him.

I have to agree with PG on this one, a quiet word is what is needed. You report him and this could all end up being a neighbour from hell situation. However you also have to consider what if he does not react positively to your friendly word, then reporting is your only option. He sounds like he is a nightmare anyway and it might also be a thought to just report anonymously, without the chat and therefor not setting the seed of suspicion in your direction. Unfortunately the decision is yours, good luck with what ever you decide.

I know a licence holder who lost his licence for leaving his gun overnight, out of sight in the back of his van and the van was broken into and the gun stolen.

It wasn't something he did on a regular basis just a one off occasion because he was distracted by a problem.

The police were not at all impressed by his stupidity and really went to town.

If this idiot leaves his guns in clear view he deserves all he gets if reported, unfortunately the resulting bad press will be bad for all licence holders but if they are stolen by a low life and used in a crime that would not be good either.

I agree this is a very awkward situation for you but I suggest you report him anonymously via the non emergency phone number, is it 101, and explain that you do not wish to give your name because of possible repercussions.

give me his name and address, the number of your flo and i'll shop him for you, if he gives you any grief send him my way, as much as I agree with everyone else about his arrogance/stupidity it still doesn't detract from the fact that if he's liable to get a monk on you're in the firing line.

Mind your own business! Why were you nosing through your neighbour's car windows 500yds from your house anyway?

I really don't know what's happening in this country - these days everyone seems to want to be offended by SOMETHING...
