Lidl/Aldi fishing rods/reels query

I have some decent-ish tackle (Diawa/Shimano etc.) at home but am a bit hesitant to use it from my Canadian canoe as I don`t want to lose it.

Is the above kit any use or am I better off with something from my local tackle shops?

Is it salt or freshwater Henry, personally I would use my favourite gear just for the pleasure I would get from using it , I hate floppy rods and nasty grinding reels , buy cheap buy twice !

Aldi fishing gear is like everything else they sell. Very good value. I bought a telescopic sea rod and reel a few years ago. I used it for a couple of years for holidays, still all working great. However like all gear we buy ( me anyway) you'll want to buy something better eventually.

I bought a cheapish Aldi spinning reel, it lasted a season and wouldnt buy again. On the other hand I did trash it catching mackerel and spinning for bass from my kayak. The salt water is a killer if you dont religously clean after every trip and the reels were often totally awash with seawater.

I got my spinning rod from decathlon for £40 rod and reel and it has been pretty good considering. Landed my pb pike on it (17lb) and used in both salt and fresh. Says it's good to cast up to 50g I think but with care you can cast triple that, but not quite as far.

simple answer is,,,,,YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR,,,,, cheap and nasty will fail when its most needed as all the components they are built with are cheaply made,

get a decent rod and reel to do the job as in the long run you will regret not buying decent gear in the first place

if the rod says 50gram then that is the weight it will cast to the best effect and range,,using a heavier weight will only cause stress on the blank and will soon end in disaster

NGT . If the rods are anything like their stainless steel bank sticks steer well clear.

If in 10 years nothing has changed, then the quality of that rod will be,,, well,,,, suspect ? Looks suspect anyway 😉 Why don't you report back when you've bought one 👍😂
