Classic car to sell - Advice please

I have a 1991 Porche 944 turbo with a personalised plate (just H1 plus 3 letters).

I have done some research and a good one is just shy of £7000 apparently - this is a good one, one owner - me, for 23 years. 94K miles and a good service history. It has the SE pack. Starts first time after a month not moving and has done for 2 years

Its on Sorn and has been for too long, I'm not going to use it now so someone else may as well have some fun.

0-60 in 5.4 apparently, in its day.

Does anyone know how to go about selling it? I am not a member of the Porche Owners Club and tend to trade in my cars.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

A decent car will always sell. I ain't a fan of the 944 BUT plenty of folk out there are. A one owner car will also always sell! Sounds good mileage as well, what's the service history like?

I would start by joining a Porsche forum and let folk know what you have and I'm pretty sure it will sell easily enough on there :-) good luck. I have a classic lying in my garage lol but I can't be bothered finishing off the rebuild, so no doubt it will lie there for a few more years!!

Pistonheads would probably be a good start for it, also just look on a few independent Porsche forums

+1

Do your research beforehand Kes, make sure you don't just look at the top end of the market, know what problems those cars have, that way you can up sell yours by saying, doesn't suffer from .......

Have a lowest acceptable figure in mind and don't go beyond it, you will get a load of jokers making silly offers.

Owners club is a good start, I would also look at carandclassic website they are always loads of classics for sale on there and does seem to be the go to website if you are looking for something.

Edit: just looked on carandclassic plenty of 944's on there for comparison.

No probs. If it was an S2, I might be interested myself! Have the belts and rollers been done recently? (Mileage / time are both important). Good luck!

I am amazed - I just drive it and took it to be serviced would not know how to answer on the belts and rollers things - answer, no idea?

Thanks to your advice its 'listed' on the Porche GB website now. We'll see if there's any interest. If you would like some photos - I can try !

See if you can find any references to them in the paperwork. The belts need to be done every 4 years / 48,000 miles ish. (Though not all are) Generally rollers and waterpump too every second belt change*. People on the forum will ask! And yes, I would get some pics up there, everyone loves a bit of 944 porn!

* This refers to the Lux model, not 100% sure on the turbo, but I think the timings would be similar...

Classified adverts on Ebay are a very effective way of selling a car.

I'd say better than pistonheads and Autotrader. Doesn't cost a percentage either, classifieds are fixed fee.

No harm advertising it there and posting a link on the other places too.

EBay, no really, if nothing more than checking prices.

Search for what you want then click sold listings and the, err, sold ones are shown.

Unfortunately they appear to be more around the 4-5k mark. Anyone can advertise at 7k, but this method always shows true market value...

My current classic (I get through a few) was advertised on a forum for £1500, I paid £450

A 1 owner car with history will sell well.

I'd be tempted to get the plate off if its not got daft letters e.g. Z, Y, V

Oh and you've never broken the speed limit in it ever?:good:

Actually I'm not saying :whistling: but I have since learned the error of my ways  and now almost always stick to the limits :innocent: .

I think if we could all try, thats the best that can be hoped for. I try and sometimes fail.

I dont mind admitting to doing 46 in a 40 limit and got a ticket - that was a fiat panda just tripped out and forgot. 7 years ago - once more before that aged 18.

I also once followed an unmarked police car at a staggering speed which was driven dangerously, so I could report the driver. I'd rather not say how fast I was going to catch him up and read his number plate.

Thanks for the help - I have 4 people from the Porche club interested.

Just brought it back from the MOT, it passed, after the drivers seat was tightened down, the washer pipe was cleaned and the rear brakes cleaned out.

Back in the garage now. I would post a pic but its not straighforward.
