Wildfowler
Now as my screen name would suggest, I'm a wildfowler... through and through. I enjoy the odd day pigeon shooting but I have always read in amazement of these big bags of pigeons. Well Friday night I went down the horse field with my wife and the farmers were cutting the peas along side it. When they had finished they stopped for a chat and said I can help myself to shooting it. The problem was I'd already agreed to go out pigeon shooting with a couple of friends on a different farm... So I set out Saturday morning to a wheat stubble field, about half an hour drive from home to join my two mates. When we all arrived we could see that the field we had planned to shoot had been ploughed the day before! So we set up on the last field left standing, and settled in... we sat there for about 2 hours and saw 1 pigeon! then the farmers started ploughing that field too! So we packed up and left... In a bid to make the most of my free day, I went back to the pea field which is a 5 minuet walk from my house. I arrived at 12:00 with the plan of setting up, settling in and grabbing some lunch. As i was setting the decoys, pigeons started tr try and land in the pattern, at this point I thought I could be on for a good session... By 14:00 i hadn't taken one bite of my sandwich! I had managed to rack up 40 or so pigeons though... By 16:00 i had just about managed one sandwich (and many emails to my 2 fiends updating them on how it was going! ) And was now on almost 100... by now my maxus was too hot to touch the barrel at times... By 18:20 i had shot myself out of cartridges and it was time to tally up. Final count was 163 pigeons and one crow picked with a further 8 down in a wheat field that hasn't been cut yet. I had 297 shots (25 or so were to stop runners) so not an amazing ratio but OK... I propped my phone up on the back of the truck for a pic

DEADLY PLUMBER
Great bag. Don't worry about ratios. Enjoy your day. Keep an eye on that field. You might get another day on it.
Wildfowler
Thanks gents... Yes, my luck certainly did change! From such a shocking start to the day I never would have thought I'd end up with that bag! It's not a monster bag by some standards but it's the most I've ever shot by myself, by a fair way too! Looking forward to the next session now! (I'm sure it won't be anywhere near Saturday, but I've definitely got the bug for pigeons!)
motty
A great result. It's great when pigeons come in to the decoys one after another.

kippylawkid
Well done - top day by anyone's standards. Do you use the maxus for fowling too? I fancy one as I am getting battered by my OU beretta if i have a decent day and I want something soft shooting.
Wildfowler
Yes, the maxus is now my 'go to' gun. I put off getting a semi auto as I always saw them as a bit of a red neck gun (rightly or wrongly), but I love it! It's never misfired or jammed and I've used all kinds of loads through it. It soaks up the recoil of 3 1/2" goose loads too! Certainly my gun of choice for in a hide or on the marsh!
