Salmond V Darling debate

Sad that someone who is concerned only with his own legacy could lead a strongly patriotic nation like Scotland into such a mine field for his own purpose. Its simply not necessary and has there ever been a stronger negotiating position short of 'Salmondland'?

A good job he is at last being seen for what he is. Many a willing crowd have followed poor leaders to oblivion.

On the news this morning he said the pound is as much Scottish as English, bank of England and pound Sterling you muppet.

He wants to cherry pick, not going to happen.

Not normally a fan of this type of Debate but this one seems to have worked to show his and his parties failings in policy.

Does it really matter if he looses though, Cameron is going to give him a big bag of sweeties.

Not him, the Scots, if they dont expose him for what he is then we all lose to self-interested people like that. It should be independence with Salmond, concessions without him. The whole Scottish Independence mirage is of his making and for himself - noone else. He is megalomania walking.

Europe has proved you cannot run separate economies on one currency, Sterling has saved us many times and the Scots are welcome to it having equal rights, right up until the point they become a separate nation to the rest of the UK. I think Scotland could make a good go of it on their own BUT no with this power hungry fool who wants to pick and choose and distort facts to achieve his PERSONAL goal

Found some interesting facts about Salmond and his cronies; apparently in 1979 they formed a break-away group "79 Group" which wanted to

create a Scottish Socialist republic but, after a traumatic political civil war, it was banned – or "proscribed" to use the parlance of the time – and within months, seven of its leading members were expelled, including Mr MacAskill and his close political associate, Alex Salmond.

Now there were others there who either jumped ship or turned tail and fled; Stewart Stevenson, Roseanna Cunnigham, Margo MacDonald, Rob Gibson...

These things only make me think that Alec is only out to do the same again and if there is a no vote then I am expecting a big anti-English backlash.

He claimed there were 35 food banks within 15 miles of the debate , That is a disgrace , no doubt about it . But as First Minister of an elected assembly what has Mr Salmond done about it ? He's blamed the Westminster Parliament , should he not be doing the job he is elected to do and not trying to get a" place" in history ? Can we have promise that if he loses he will disappear .

I cant believe how stupid some Nats are anyone hear the woman say if Alistair Darling lived in Scotland and did he vote for Alex Salmond. Or the other one who said she spoke Gailic who cares about pensions.

I really do hope its a No as I really do think Scotland will be up **** creek without a paddle if Scotland goes Independent

Watched the debate and must say Darling won by a mile. Not what I was expecting. Although my family have Scottish roots I had no strong views other than having watched/listened to numerous items on this my feeling was this was simply SNP wanting complete power and it was not for the good of Scotland. I suspect Scots have seen through this but it could have a big impact on SNP in next election!

I am not a fan of the socialist national party of Scotland, but I work with a few who are and speaking to them on this vote is scary! Some of them have said on many occasions that they do not think Scotland will get Independence but are voting yes because it's a nice idea... With this kind of voting Scotland is doomed.

Cheers
