kent
My chesapeake is my first gun dog . I was also told not to get one as a first gundog also . I made sure she was well socialised as a pup and just enjoyed training her.you do have to be on top of them with regards to training as they are quite stubborn but are very eager to please. My bitch is an all round gundog mostly used for ducks and geese, but loves beating and despite their large build have very good stamina and will run around all day.if you want to Use a chessie to its full potential give it plenty of waterwork.i have had the crocodile jokes.and there is alot of bad press that goes with them , but youd be surprised how my lab lads say" ive always fancied a chessie. I thought they were all visous. I think im getting a chessie after seeing her." Good look with him and put plenty of time into training as you only get out what you put in. Your bitch is sound well bred and well brought on, one to be proud of for sure. Seen others that were let us say were "a little hairy" and I am not talking of their water proof oily coats. kent
If anyone is interested, the long retrieve was filmed on Taylors Gutter on the Dee Estuary. It is quite a swim and you couldn't send any dog right across it at full flow

E.w.
Kent, I don't know what part of the country you are but we have no trouble finding them here, Dave Latham will put you on to something if you are ever looking for a wildfowling dog no bother. I already know who I am speaking with to source my next lab, it will likely as not be a bitch with a mind to keep my own line if it makes the grade physically, mentally and in the field. At the earliest it will be next September I imagine
Zapp
Thanks pal, I think you made a good choice, everything iv read and people iv spoken to say they need an experianced owner. I'm already sensing it's going to be a challenge and iv had everything from working terriers to foxhound pups. All been well in a couple of years I'll have a sensible working companion! Thanks zapp, where did yours come from? Sorry, only just saw this. Ours came from a breeder in Oxfordshire.

Iv been looking for a Chesapeake for a good while and I saw that penrose had a litter due. So here we are. He's a trouble maker, full of character. JDog
That retrieve almost brought tears to my eyes. The shooter certainly had faith in his dog's ability.
Zapp
I love that video. Everything about the way the dog moves reminds me of mine, or at least it would if she was as well trained!

STOTTO
That retrieve almost brought tears to my eyes. The shooter certainly had faith in his dog's ability. A hunter and his dog working in natural ageless harmony with time and tide, indeed a wonder to behold.

Daveo26
Yeah he's doing really well! I had a really shaky bit during the season. After a promising start he just started acting like a fool. Displayed some shocking behaviour and I really wondered what I had got myself into with this giant bone headed donkey. Then I tried him again in Jan and for 4 shoot days he never missed. Really showed promise, it's early days yet but we finished the season on a massive high. He's not been easy to deal with but I wouldn't be with out him.

They are big characters, in the best and worst sense I think. I love my girl too and wouldnt be without her for anything. Here she is, along with our lab/cocker cross and that thing that lives in our house and jumps on my head when I'm trying to sleep.
