Guys,

I'm in a pickle of a dilema.

What semi auto 12 do I get? For shooting everything?

I been umming and arring between.....

Sx3

Maxus

Outlander

M2

Affinity

Fabarm xlr composite.

Mega bernadelli

Its driving me crazy, the maxusx3 has some gas piston issues. Benellis are

Overpriced,

What do I do. I need 3" minimum. Cos I'm going to virtually use it for steel shot only. I may even ditch the supernova to get something PX.

?

Aaaaaaaaagggggghhhhhh !

A versamax :)

You will have a job to get a decent answer as most will recommend what they have , I have a versamax and its never had a single jam as yet and its had a few 1000 through it.

Beretta are also good , but I think the outlander is pretty much a benelli in disguise , gas driven autos are much nicer to shoot.

If you want a beretta I would go for the xtrema or the new A300 xtrema they have just brought out.

I think that the bottom line is that you pays your money and takes your choice.

I have the Maxus ultimate in 26" - not for 'fowling. Previously, when on form in a pigeon hide if they're safe and in range I'll shoot and will get 2 for3. Since I got the Maxus that has become the norm so I'm obviously well pleased. I've got no idea what the piston issues might be but there again, I only shoot one cartridge albeit of two differing shot sizes. I firmly believe that my accuracy is down to the stock adjustment shims provided. Although there is only one of each on purchase, they are readily available and the gun can accept up to two. With the correct two installed, at the pattern plate the gun prints precisely where I want it to.

Consequently, as no gun is any good if it doesn't shoot straight for the shooter, my only reservation on my opening sentence would be to check on what is on offer regards shims and the number which can be installed at any one time.

How much are you looking to spend?

I would say try a Beretta A300 Xtrema as I've got one and it is fantastic, cheaper the SX3 if it fits is a good gun, the Armsan A612 is a really good bit of kit for not a lot of money less that £400.00 new.

I'd say pick up as many as you can and see what you think fit and balance wise, try and shoot as many as you can.

These threads always descend into whatever the post owns right now :)

However I've owned an M2, and a couple of Remingtons, and the Rem costs half as much as the Benelli, but for my money is softer shooting and will last much longer. My M2 had started light striking after 3 years, and despite a warranty return continued to do so.

I'm not saying Remingtons don't go wrong, but if they do, the parts are widely available, and easy to fix. I wouldn't go back, personally.

best advice i can give is get out there and try as many different makes and models as possible. ive got a beretta 1301 on section 1 for vermin and clays, and its great. its basically the a300 xtrema with a 24 inch barrel and a 10+1 capacity. superb to shoot with very little recoil.

my FIL has the M2 comfortech and thats an awesome bit of kit. will run 24 gram loads all day long with barely noticeable recoil. has had about 5000 rounds through it without a hiccup.

remington 1100 is also a good choice, as is the versamax. just a little on the heavy side compared to mine but not by much.

i havent tried the armsan so cant comment, but the revo matrix isnt bad for the money.

im afraid, however, that i cant totally agree with you about benelli's being overpriced. i genuinely think that they're worth the asking price. just my opinion though. :good:

I been comparing prices and such.

You get good value with bernadelli and fabarm. The rest are quite expensive. I could stretch to a little more, just means I need to save a little more.

The Berettas start at a grand, but the fabarm and VB at £800 or so.

The maxus, and sx3 I have read they have gas piston issues.

I still think the benellis are over priced. I did want a m2 ages ago. But they are 1000-1200£.

I can live with the 3".

I never even considered rem. I am looking on Thurs at a few gums.

My problem is the more I save the more options I have. My main goal is it needs to be able to shoot steel, a lot of steel infact.

Save the £1200.00 needed to buy a A300 Xtrema you will not be disappointed. The patterns with steel are good and the Hp chokes were designed to shoot steel. I still can't justify buying a kicks for it as its shooting so well with the makers HP chokes. Where else can you buy a gun with the kick off and best bits from the more expensive A400.

Don't worry about the piston on the sx3 and maxus, it's not that common a priblem for the spring to snap, an upgraded valve can be bought for it, pushed the price up though.

Never seen a Bernadelli so couldn't comment on them.

Save more and have more choice :good: then you can buy what you want not what you can afford at the time.

I have an extreme 2 it's done every thing I've asked of it, from light 70mms to 3 1/2 mags an handles really well!! It's ideal for

Wildfowlers I would recommend it too anybody but they are pricey even second hand but worth it

A cracking bit of kit !

I have an SX3 its been great, I think I have used it 5 yrs now? only issue I have had is some Remington Super mags that were too long to fit through the port once fired. its had a very had life on the saltmarsh etc.

Most Semi auto failures reported are failure to maintain. Gas piston issues? Sure let them get full of carbon and they will all play up (some think cleaning is all about the bore)

I have been looking into these also, I'm not looking to spend anywhere near £1000 though.

I was thinking of just getting a baikal O/U for something cheap to start off with but I keep getting pointed towards a hatsan escort as they cheap new and come steel proof with multi choke also.

The reason the semi autos appealed to me was because I think I will be applying for me FAC shotgun slot when it goes in, and the semi autos can be extended to fit that criteria.
