johnnythefox70
Thanks to a flying stone from a truck my windscreen has a nice big chip in it. My question is has anyone ever claimed on the insurance for this work to be done? And did you have any problems getting insured when the renewal is due. Many thanks for any replies
TIGHTCHOKE
Contact Autoglass, get the damage looked at, they may be able to repair it or replace the screen. Edited December 13, 2014 by TIGHTCHOKE
steve_b_wales
My wife had a chip repaired free of charge through her insurance (fully comp) and would only have to pay the excess if it was smashed. Same goes for mine. The repairer sorted out the claim directly with her insurers, and they came and repaired her windscreen at her works address. johnnythefox70
Dont reckon its a repair more like a replace. If i have to claim what happens next year (when i renew poss with a diffrent insurer) what do i say when they ask "any accidents claims or convictions?" Harnser
I too claimed for a screen on my truck . The cost of the screen was close to £400 ,I paid £75 excess and it did not affect my insurance premium . A no brainer . Harnser.
mark@mbb
I have a heated screen on my transit T200 tipper and a nut of a wagon put a perfect circle to one side it looks like a mortar shell has hit the window
welsh1
I replaced 4 windscreens in one year on a van,all cost me £65 excess and it never affected my insurance. i have also had chips fixed and no affect on insurance.
aris
I think it is a fallacy that it does not affect insurance. A claim is a claim, and while it may not affect your no claims - in theory if a future insurer asked if you had made any claims, you would have to declare it and it would affect your premium quote. Cannon
I replaced a heated rear window through my insurance. Paid the £75 excess and it didn't affect my premium upon renewal. Most insurance companies will allow you to claim for glass without it affecting your no claims.
Davyo
Does not effect your insurance insurance, but make sure you tell them.In my case I declared it and was told its ok it will not effect the new quote. Plus if you read the declaration on windscreen cover it tells you this on black and white.
norfolk dumpling
Windscreen is one of the few incidents where no blame is attached to the policyholder - it is usually the vehicle in front and impossible to prove so very very unlikely is will be held against you. The only exception is attempted theft where glass is put in but even there if it is the only damage it comes under the glass section. 'Bullet holes' are repaired wherever possible free of charge on environment grounds as broken screens go into landfill. Having said all of this a buddy with the new BMW ix (?) hybrid had broken the glass (yes it is) hatch which apparently comes under bodywork and is, I gather £800 a pop!! stokie
Disco is £650 replaced with Gavin . I had my old one done a few years ago . Insurance payed all bar £70 excess made no difference to policy
sishyplops
Had 2 in 2 months on my A4 £60 each time does not effect policy, I dread to think what audi would charge for a brace of them
norfolk dumpling
With modern screens (heater elements, sensors erc) screens are getting very expensive and with road surfaces poor claims are on the up I'm told so one or two insurers looking to increase excesses or take action if to many claims made. Enjoy the current situation it may change!
Davyo
my old grand vitara had a bad crack(vision area), looked all over for a second hand screen £100 plus postage so was going to be £125.00. Paid excess for brand new screen and fitted profesionally by auto windscereen in 40 mins. no affect on insurance.

Maldred4
If you have had c chip repaired or a screen replaced through your insurance you must declare it as a claim against insurance when changing insurers. If you fail to and then make a subsequent claim for an accident etc and its discovered your insurance could well be null and void. The same goes if you bump your hire car on holiday and you had taken out excess waiver (not from the hire company) insurance from a UK insurer before you went away. It goes down as a motor vehicle insurance claim. A nasty sting in the tail that virtually is unheard off to Joe Public.
39TDS
I needed a new rear screen for my Terrano after I backed into something and broke it. Rang one of the glass repair firms for a price and they said £550. I declined as it was too much. "Oh don't worry, we can just get it off your insurance company and it won't cost you anything" It is just damned wrong! I eventually paid £75 to a local chap who went and got one out of a scrapper and fitted it at my place. He still made a profit at that.
