Why I hate Christmas

There's a bit of me that feels sorry for people who hate Christmas because there's something "missing" for them. Maybe it will change for me, but at the moment with 3 boys 13 years and under, I can't wait. The youngest who is 8 still "believes" albeit by a thread based on his concern that if he doesn't he'll get nothing on the day.

See, that's the thing,

Xmas is all about families and more important, children.

For those that don't have children/live on their own, Xmas is just another day,

I don't really think I HATE Xmas,

I just don't particularly like/enjoy it

As i don't get on with any of my non-immediate family (with 2 exceptions), being 'forced' together because of Christmas is like being professionally tortured and it inevitably restokes old resentments and arguments, brilliant(!) <_<

Then there's the politics with the immediate family as to where Christmas dinner is held, who's coming, who ISN'T coming... nightmare.

The only good part for me is the time off work, knowing that everyone else is also off work so i'm not coming back to a titanic pile of **** on my desk - which is also why i never have more than 4 days off in a row during the rest of the year

Happy ********* merry Christmas everyone, and a carppy New Year! :friends::lol:

it gets longer every damned year!

Not so sure about that. OK, put aside the emergency services, hospital staff, care workers and similar, but my step-son has to be at work by 6am on Boxing Day and it's a 45 minute drive so it's no Christmas evening tipple for him. He's the catering manager in a shop - a ****** shop for crying out loud! I'm toying with the idea of e-mailing Michael Sharp and asking him where he'll be at that time on that day - CEO Debenhams.

Festive profit and greed season more like. Pathetic.

Christmas a time to chill spend time with my family,Boxing Day round my mum and dad's with the rest of the family, enjoy it while you can, time spent with family is precious,it only seems like a few years ago I was the kid round my nan's on Boxing Day,now a lot of the older ones are gone, one day it will be me hosting everyone on Boxing Day.this year will be the first without all my family at home ,my son is getting married on Sunday and will be in Malta for his honeymoon, and my brother will be working over Christmas time so will stay in Vietnam with his partner for Christmas day.

Cheer up you miserable ****,just look into the faces of the little kids who still haven't twigged, remember the anticipation you had as a child, that first bike,or even air rifle.

Open a bottle put your feet up for a few days, watch some **** tv :) and enjoy the time spent with loved ones, and if you can't manage that you can always go out shooting.

Nicely said!

As title says.

I can't stand this time of year, everyone getting stressed as what to buy for who.

Family and friends asking me what I want and not listening when I say nothing, but insisting they get me something. "OK" I say "give me a card with £3 cellotaped to it so I can attempt to buy a pint". And then buying me a voucher that I can spend in only one shop in the country, if you must, give me cash, I can spend that anywhere.

Everyone being nice to each other, when they can't stand them the rest of the year.

The local pub packed to the rafters with the folk from the village that only come out for that one day a year for the free drink of the landlord and moan when the pub shuts.

The list can go on and on and on.

Anyone else feel the same?

Hell yes, you have nearly summed up xmas for me, I can add a few more but am sure most will have been covered here, glad when its all over again? you bet I will be.

That's honest and understandable. I hope things change so you can enjoy part of it in some way in future.

I don't particularly like Xmas, I like having the family round, the kids and grandkids, parents and friends but the whole present buying thing depresses me. I like warmth and good food, smiles and laughter. Most of it is too commercialised and therefore false.

Quite a few years ago I was doing some last minute shopping, I was in the queue behind an old lady who had some basics, small chicken, a few spuds, sprouts, carrots and a bottle of cheap sherry. There was me about to spend £100 plus on minor bits and pieces. I held up the till while I went and got a bottle of Emva cream, a box of chocolates, a Xmas pudding and a piece of gammon, went back to the till and put it in the old dears trolley. I paid for the lot and felt so bloody good! That was the true meaning of Xmas, I gave her a lift home with her shopping and met her disabled war veteran husband, a charming down to earth bloke who was too proud to ask for help. We stayed in touch, every Xmas I took them a bottle and a card, they always reciprocated with a card and some sweets for my youngest.

Sadly they're both gone now but I'll always remember how I felt giving something to someone who had less than me, it cost me little but helped 2 wonderful people.

Good man thats a nice read.

Cheers

I 'gave up' Christmas about 18 years ago. The Memsahib soon joined me. Best thing we ever did. No cards, no presents, no special food, just peace and quiet whilst the rest of the country goes mad.

I am an atheist so it is meaningless from a spiritual angle.

Millions of pounds spent on absolute rubbish that most of the recipients would never have bought for themselves. People going into debt for the rest of the year.

The country comes to a complete standstill for a couple of weeks. Oh, I could go on and on...

Roll on the New Year when the country can get back to normal and I stand some chance of getting a bloke to lay a couple of carpets for me. Can't get anyone to even talk about it at the moment "Because it's Christmas we are all behind".

Commercial madness gone global.

im a single guy in his 40's with no kids and i LOVE christmas, like Grandalf im an athiest but religion plays no part in my feelings towards christmas.. its a time for family and friends and one where i can spoil myself and my family not with the gifts (which i do) but with food and drink we wouldnt normally buy due to costs... sometimes we need an excuse to spoil ourselves... question is do i spoil myself and buy a new over/under :)

another reason i love christmas is because its the only time our factory closes so the only time i can have a few days off work without my phone constantly ringing. last year i had a week off and on one day before 9am i had recieved 8 or 9 calls from work

so what do you all think of new years eve? as mentioned im a christmas nut but i HATE new years eve and will probably be in bed by 9 with my phone on silent to avoid all the drunken happy new year texts... only problem these days in my neck of the woods is people let fireworks off at midnight

... only problem these days in my neck of the woods is people let fireworks off at midnight

If you can't beat them join them chap. There were a few inconsiderates letting of late fireworks one weekend around guy fawkes about 300yds from my gaff. I sent up three crow bangers simultaneously and the noise was terriffic.Prior to unleashing hell I tipped off my pal in the pub down the road and he was outside having a smoke. Another smoker who was texting was oblivious to the impending din and the resultant booming made him drop his phone when he jumped.

I didnt hear any more firworks after that.

Well there is nothing like been a hypocrite is there, I get slated for hating xmas and all it stands for (I do like the original 21st Dec Pagan believe though) but you all love it but do not like new year, isn't new year a time for families etc as well ???

Just for the record I do not like new year either, only difference is that I keep my thoughts on both to my self (unless asked) but have to have it rammed down my throat by shops, tv, the media and YOU!

So ho bloody ho merry xmas and a happy new year to you all, just leave me out of it thank you.

Back to normality now it's over

Shooting in the morning, clays on Sunday and back to work Monday.

The "MIL" came over Christmas day and I genuinely did enjoy her and her husband's company, they are very relaxed and don't mind my sense of humour.

Boxing day was a trip to the "FIL", now the good lady's dad is a nice chap but very formal and so is the brother in law who was also in attendance "Yes Sir, No Sir." If you say it's Monday then it is Monday even though it's Thursday". His better half prepared a lovely meal, which was very enjoyable followed by a cheese board  I have to say the port helped ;) "only the 1 as you're driving"

I gave and received some gifts and smiled.

But, the good lady had been conspiring with a couple of members of PW and came up with a fantastic gift for myself which I am truly grateful for. Something I have always wanted to do. My face would have been a picture when I found out about it.

Thank you to the 2 members who helped Amy out. (One who helped out with the communications and the other who will be facilitating the gift). :good:

I enjoyed Christmas day with the one I love and even managed to slip out to the pub whilst the duck was cooking

l would like to say thank you to my beautiful lady for bringing the magic of Christmas back to me and for a great time and gift. Love you sweetheart

I love Christmas. For me it is about what it symbolises, not about presents. even as a child I was less excited about the presents, and more interested in the spirit of the day. Now that I have children of my own it is a pleasure to tell them Christmas stories and see their faces when they open their presents...
